Alexis Bledel fighting teen pregnancy

by Arieanna on September 12th, 2005

Alexis Bledel was on hand at a national campaign to prevent teen pregnancy.

“The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy will hold a benefit dinner to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary and the nation’s stunning decline in teen pregnancy and to formally challenge the nation to reduce the teen pregnancy rate by another one-third over the next ten years. The event takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the East Hall of Union Station in Washington, D.C.
“Many measures of child and adolescent well-being have improved over the past decade but few as dramatically as teen pregnancy,” said Sarah Brown, Director of the National Campaign. “On the occasion of the National Campaign’s 10th anniversary, we will celebrate the power of prevention, applaud the tremendous progress the nation has made on an issue many once considered intractable, thank all those who have helped the National Campaign along the way, and underscore the fact that the problem of teen pregnancy is far from solved.”

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), Rep. Nancy Johnson (R-Conn.), and Vivian Berryhill, founder and president of the National Coalition of Pastors’ Spouses will be honored for their dedication to preventing teen pregnancy and will speak at the event. Alexis Bledel-star of the popular and critically acclaimed WB show The Gilmore Girls and recently named “Choice It Girl” at the Teen Choice Awards-will be featured at the dinner as part of the National Campaign’s salute to the entertainment industry.”
