Gilmore Girls Recap: I’m OK, You’re OK
Episode Name: I’m OK, You’re OK
Lorelai starts out with an adorable freak out about a giant spider in the shower which she trapped and Luke must then trap and set free.
Luke got a call from April that she wants him to chaperone a trip to Philly for a Math competition - a week trip, being the first thing April has asked Luke for. Lorelai is a little crestfallen, but holding herself well. And encourages him to go bond.
Zoom over to Zach, Lane and Brian. They are all moved back in together and happy about it. Until the small question of what Brian should do when Lane & Zach get married - Lane wants her own apartment. Zach is a little flaky and needs to be clued in.
Zach is also schedule to go visit Mrs. Kim and ask for permission to marry Lane. Fun!
More bug fun with Lorelai and a quote I just must share:
"I have a cricket cornered under a paper cup in my living room. I poked holes in the top so he could breathe, and then I taped it to the floor cause he kept jumping out, and then I put books on top in case it wasn’t sticky enough, so don’t move the books until you’re ready for transport"
Now that is classic Lorelai!
Luke is sewing up his duffel bag, which he’s had his whole life. Lorelai wants to buy something new, but he refuses. We’ll return to this later… a prelude to an issue.
Lane runs out to tell Rory about her engagement to Zach. And there is a whole mess of jumping and squealing. But while we’re all excited, we must ask why Rory is back in Stars Hollow. Everything is truly "fine", isn’t it? She breaks it to Lorelai that she’s moved back with Logan, that he "explained" his cheating and things are "fine" now. Yes, because cheating is a "misunderstanding". Anyway…
Oooh, now this is my favorite part of the episode...
Rory is at the Dragonfly Inn marking up some pieces for the Yale Daily with sticky notes. And, our lovable and oh so classic Michel says:
"You like neon…?"
And proceeds to berate Rory for using 7 pink neon post-its which send an imbalance into the "system" - pink neon for guests checking in, green neon for checking out. So, 7 notes less in pink creates
"the illusion that more guests have been checking in than checking out, which, of course, is a physical impossibility. Unless, of course, we have begun murdering them"
The more sarcastic, the more happy is our lovable Michel.
Emily calls - she and Richard are lost, despite (or perhaps because of) their GPS. It’s some weird GPS that only works when the car is stopped. Interesting. So, Emily has her own quotable moment:
"What’s next, the radio won’t turn on if it doesn’t like the song? The engine won’t start if the cup of coffee I’m holding is too hot? Maybe the car won’t go in reverse if it doesn’t like the smell of my perfume!"
Well, Lorelai opens her big mouth and says to call before they go out somewhere near Stars Hallow, and sarcastically says they could have stopped by. And drops that Rory is there. Well, foot in mouth. They want to now stop by after they go to the estate sale.
Zach goes to meet Mrs. Kim. And drops that he wants to marry Lane. He came prepared though. With a suit. Recommendation from work. And his bank statement. And Mrs. Kim drills him about his ambitions in music - asks for a demo tape. Since that is his calling. She wishes to evaluate it. He fibs that he has not asked Lane yet to marry him.
Lorelai and Rory clean house - remove pillows, blankets, the Lindsay Lohan Cosmo, and just about anything with character. Then Lorelai sprays a bad perfume around to make it less inviting.
Sookie comes with trays of food. All Lorelai’s faves… mac & cheese, taquitos, chili fries, mini hot dogs… which they then rename to fancy food to please the Gilmores.
Why the favorites? Sookie thought Lorelai was perhaps pregnant!! So funny. Perhaps a hint for a soon episode?
Richard and Emily take a too-keen look at Lorelai’s home (with the remodels) and a too-keen look at Stars Hollow in general. Hmm.
Mrs. Kim says there are "good bits here and there" and that "Lane can really pound the skins" but that Zach & the band need a hit. After all her analysis and study, she forces Zach to write a hit or he won’t marry Lane. Also at 3.5 minutes tops, and radio friendly. Mrs. Kim is so friendly. She’s always had Lane’s interest at heart, but she’s only recently come to realize she was trying to make Lane into someone other than Lane… and now she is making up for it.
Luke comes to the house and knocks (why?!?) then Lorelai whispers to go away.
More of the weird Stars Hollow interest by the Gilmores. First they ask if Luke & Lorelai plan to stay there, which of course they do, then they make some weird observations about feeling "at home" in Stars Hollow. And she says their house is has a charm fitting to Luke and Lorelai… perhaps wanting to be close if the baby, hint earlier, is a future possibility.
Now Rory makes a suggestion to go to April’s mom - Anna’s - store to spy. To get more information on the mother of Luke’s daughter. Lorelai wants to respect Luke and stay out of it, but…
Rory goes anyway. The store is cute. Clothes and home stuff. Rory is impressed with her. Anna has nice stuff and is brutally and hilariously honest with her customers about what to buy. And Rory likes that.
Kirk!! It’s been so long! He’s referring to himself in the third person. And he’s a realtor now. Working out of the Dragonfly Inn because he doesn’t have an office yet. Lorelai not so happy about that. Kicks him out… but not before a big secret is revealed. That the Gilmores are looking for a home in Stars Hollow.
Lorelai freaks out. Doesn’t want them there. Says the 30 miles act as a buffer so if she is angry and drives to yell at her mom, she usually calms down or get distracted on the way. Funny. And yet another baby hint - that her mother probably wants to be there because she’s assuming there will be more kids.
Lorelai then freaks out that Rory went to Anna’s store.
Zach plays Mrs. Kim his "hit" song. He looks exhausted - a 20 hour song-writing binge. Mrs. Kim says it’s "close" but that the end needs work. She makes a suggestion and he works on a new cord, which makes it a "hit." Zach even wants to work more with Mrs. Kim. hehe.
Then Mrs. Kim invites Zach in to "say" something to Lane, and then provides him with a bench to kneel on, and even a more beautiful ring from Lane’s great grandmother. She approves!!
Rory is ignoring her cell phone. Hmm. Logan?
Rory notices that Luke has a new bag. From Anna’s store. Lorelai does get curious and goes to drill Luke. She is "fine" that it was indeed from Anna. Humph. Right.
Rory goes back to Logan’s. He’s flipped that she left without a note. Even checked in with the paper to see if she was ok. She lies about why she didn’t call. Doesn’t look Logan in the eye. Zips to the shower. And says everything is "fine"
Never trust a woman’s "fine" - we never mean it.

[…] Luke’s… Cesar freaking out about holding down the diner for the first time ever when Luke goes on the trip with April. Lorelai comes in and tells Luke not to jinx Cesar. Then pushes some "just in case" clothes. Oh, and the bag (read here) comes into issue. Lorelai tries to bust it. Yeah, she’s just fine. […]
