Gilmore Girls Recap: The Real Paul Anka

by Arieanna on April 11th, 2006

Show title: The Real Paul Anka (read the spoiler)

Lorelai calls Rory about her dream. And we see the dream sequence. Of Lorelai dreaming about Paul Anka - first he’s the real Paul Anka, then he’s the dog, then he’s the real Paul Anka working at Doose’s. And it keeps going on. The dog Paul Anka singing at a bar. The real Paul Anka sitting on Babette’s lap. Real Paul Anka confronts dog Paul Anka - and with a boom, two barks, and darkness… Lorelai awakes. Hilarious.

Luke’s… Cesar freaking out about holding down the diner for the first time ever when Luke goes on the trip with April. Lorelai comes in and tells Luke not to jinx Cesar. Then pushes some "just in case" clothes. Oh, and the bag (read here) comes into issue. Lorelai tries to bust it. Yeah, she’s just fine.

It drops that Luke is planning on visiting Jess. To introduce April to his cousin. Yeah, Lorelai likes that. That Luke wants April to get to know Jess but not her.

Cesar looks like he’ll be having fun with Kirk, who wants to take over for Luke. Funny.

Luke & April. Getting to know the other kids’ names through pneumonic devices. He is so nervous! April calling the other adults "grups" - from Star Trek. The other chaperones figured he was the driver because of the way he dresses - so he says he has "nicer clothes" - thank you Lorelai!

Rory and Logan. Rory is still not looking him in the eye and tries to avoid his kiss. Logan so knows something is up. Yep, fine.

That was a short scene. Back to the bus with the kids and…. singing the chemical elements (this is a math trip, after all). Fun. Luke is sitting with April and the kids, instead of with the chaperones. Interesting. I wonder why.

Luke starts to bond with a kid named Freddy based on sports, which does not impress April because I guess Freddy is not a "smart" kid, which kinda implies Luke is not as brainy as April and makes her, I think, a bit embarassed.

Mrs. Kim goes to the Dragonfly with a wedding dress (her old one) and asks Lorelai to take it in and give it to Lane. But doesn’t want Lane to see the dress… probably because it’s butt ugly. And, of course Lorelai peeks and makes a face and a funny noise. But we don’t get to see it. Knowing Lorelai, she can work a miracle on it… without telling Mrs. Kim ;)

Back to the Yale Daily. Rory confronts Paris for bringing fruit flies to the paper (in a jar). Odd story.

Then Logan asks Rory why a piece he had been assigned had been done… and Rory did it because she didn’t think he’d get it done in time. He’s pissed because he did a lot of work… and Rory used his research. Sneaky. She underestimated him then went ahead and took over. Lack of trust apparent. Animosity very apparent. Logan is hurt and angry since it was common knowledge the piece was his… and that he’s being whipped. I want to say they will break up, but I know he’s still on for next season, so we’ll see.

Luke… tries to sit with April. She squirms. Apparently they didn’t win the competition either.

Whoa, I so had the Freddy thing wrong. April tries to tell Luke that she likes Freddy. Luke is a bit dense, but clues in. And tells Luke not to sit with April because she wants Freddy to have a shot at sitting with her. But she’s doing the whole pre-teen thing: ignoring the guy to clue him. So cute.

Rory walks in on the guys night at Logan’s - they are planning another Life & Death Brigade stunt to celebrate the end of year. To take planes to Costa Rica, parachute down, white water raft to a giant party. Complicated.

Here comes grumpy Rory trying to question the legitimacy of the plans - to see if they have it all right. But she’s being impossible and sarcastic. The guys leave because of it and Logan gets totally pissed that she embarrassed him and confronts her for not forgiving him. Apparently it has been a while since our last episode, since he cites dinners where she is on her phone, all the times she won’t kiss him, etc. Then he storms out.

Lane runs to Lorelai knowing she has the dress and tells her to destroy it. Apparently the dress has pants!! Ok, no amount of sewing skill can make pants into a dress! She refuses to destroy the dress, but we’ll have to see how she does.

Lorelai spots her parents in the window reflection then goes to hunt them down. Loses them.

Logan is going away for a few days. The Life & Death brigade thing. And he seems sad. Rory doesn’t sound like she cares.

Lorelai finds Kirk in a dump of a house, full of everything from mold to Indian bones, which he has made into his office. Wants to find out where her parents are. Lorelai squeezes out the info from him.

Rory checks her mail. Gets an invite from Jess to go to his store opening. End scene.

Lorelai "accidentally" bumps into her parents. Gives them the "what’s up". They lie. Say they are antiquing. Offers to go with them. They sly out of it. Or, at least they try. But Lorelai, she is tricky. Takes them towards an antique store, meanwhile trying to lie about Stars Hollow, saying it has all these horrible things wrong with it. hehe.

JESS!! "We need our own bar" is the first line. Jess and his friends want to open a bear. Neat. He’s looking amazing, by the way. Short hair. Blazer with tshirt. Cool store - artists, books, modern art (which Luke does not get). He lives upstairs. Luke is there chatting away with a more mature, adult , responsible non-sarcastic, very suave Jess. April says hi.

Lorelai is going quite overboard to diss her town. She’s going to be too obvious to her parents. Goes into Doose’s and starts to diss it too, but Taylor comes over and pulls out his Mayoral codes. If that doesn’t drive them away, I don’t know what would.

Zoom back to Jess’ place. They are having a poetry reading. April tells Luke it is only "so-so." And there is Rory. "And isn’t this a surprise", says Jess.

"Jess, this is your life" - April, Luke, Rory. April says Jess’ book is "easy to skim" and that Rory has a "nice face". April finds the whole "Rory" thing complicated, as she would, since Luke is finding weird excuses to shield April from Lorelai. April and Luke leave, Jess and Rory walk off together.

At the diner. Emily playing cards with a kid she thinks is April. And being a pure angel - then finds out and calls the kid a moron. hehe. So Emily. Lorelai tries to explain the "arrangement" whereby Lorelai and April don’t see each other. Of course, like the rest of us, Emily thinks this is retarded. That, if they plan on having a life together, she needs to develop a relationship with April.

Jess & Rory. Jess says Rory looks happier, even though we know she’s not. He’s doing the lean in thing - "I’m glad you’re here" and they kiss!! As the WB ad notes, "Jess gets the second chance he’s waited 3 years for"… but…

Rory says she’s sorry. Says it’s not fair to Jess. And says "and I couldn’t even cheat on him the way he cheated on me" and then Jess says "I can’t believe this!" because he assumed Logan and Rory were broken apart since she said everything was better and that she came alone to Philly. That she was there for him, and clearly Jess still loves Rory. But, she didn’t. And she confesses that she still loves Logan, despite what he has done to her. Poor Jess. Poor Rory.

April calls Luke an "overprotective dad" confidingly to a friend. Luke smiles. It’s the first time April has said "dad."

Lorelai stares at Lane’s wedding dress. It looks like an over-stuffed nightgown… with pants underneath, which kinda defeats the purpose of wearing a floor length dress. But, it is truly horrible, and so she decides to… throw her cup of coffee onto it!!

i don’t know the last song but i do have a question that i am sure every1 is wondering. okay they keep bringing back jess, they are like teasing us jess fans its like the episode Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels (when jess omces back and tells rory he loves her)we get all worked up and think maybe they are going to end up together but the fact is, is that they won’t

and i just think gilmore girls needs to stop doing that, if they end up together than okay bring him back but if they don’t then just stop. if rory ends up with logan in the end i will literaly hate this show, i think logan is the worst poosible guy for her. and also when you think about it, Dean found someone else, Logan certainly could find someone else, but jess will be hung up on rory forever.
