Gilmore Girls Season 7 Premiere Spoilers!
Michael Ausiello of TV Guide has seen, yes seen, the season premiere of Gilmore Girls Season 7: The Long Morrow. And, of course, he dished out royally.
Thanks to Michael for spilling the beans with all of us obsessed fans! Michael is a big with a capital "b" fan of Gilmore Girls so I trust his judgement. If the comedy bit the dust or the plot was stupid he would say so. So, what did Michael think of the premiere?
First, the good (and it’s a biggie): The episode looked, sounded and felt like a typical hour of Gilmore Girls. Actually, I would rank it up there with some of the show’s most entertaining episodes. The pacing and tone were what we have come to expect — and love — and, despite all the sturm und drang of the Luke/Lorelai/Christopher triangle, it was funny. Very funny. At times, even hysterical. And there was also a fair share of romance courtesy of Rory, Logan and a two-foot-tall rocket ship (yes, that’s the flying object I’ve been hinting at).
Now, the good stuff. The Spoilers for The Long Morrow:
- Babette has a funny scene regarding drying her "intimates"
- There’s a rocket ship (sort of)
- Yes, there is raquetball
- Paris’ SAT tutoring business is hilarious and we need to pay close attention to her scenes to catch something important
- Kirk is in the premiere (yeah!)
- Taylor installs a red-light camera to catch crime
- "The Long Morrow" refers to Rory & Logan’s love life
- Rory & Logan will be closer than ever
- Customers call the Diner depressing
- Taylor’s car crashes into Luke’s Diner
- Luke is faced with an easy decision (tow the car or wait for insurance) and he explodes (remind us of another decision he just messed up?)
Are the lines as well done as they were when the Palladino’s were on the case? Take this line, by Rory, speaking of her goodbye to Logan:
"It’s a very poorly-named ritual," she laments. "It was a bad-bye, very bad-bye."
Are there differences? For sure. Lauren Graham has creative freedom, which she never had before, to speak up and even change lines. Small thing? No way! Does "this will never happen again" sound the same as "I don’t think it should happen again"? That small line change is also a character change. Think about it.
What was weak about the episode, according to Ausiello?
Ironically, the weakest part of the episode was something boss man Rosenthal likely had little control over: Lauren Graham’s emotionally guarded performance. Don’t get me wrong, LG was at her gloriously pithy best. And a summer away in Virginia shooting Evan Almighty clearly suited her; she looks even more fetching than usual, if that’s possible. But much of the episode called for Lorelai to be distraught over what she had done to Luke (i.e. bedding Christopher), and, unfortunately, LG rarely gives you a sense of that anguish. Lorelai behaves as if she had just broken up with some poor schlub she dated for a few weeks — a Max, for crying out loud — rather than the love of her life. The final, heartbreaking scene should have torn Lorelai’s insides up but instead elicits little more than a frown. The way it plays, she’s not devastated, she pities Luke. Huh?
Yeah, that doesn’t sound like our Lorelai, now does it?

What exactly did Jess do that was so awful?! Look at the guys Rory’s been involved with other than Jess! Dean cheated on his wife with Rory….what a winner!! Logan also cheated on Rory with many women (remember his sister’s wedding episode?!) and he also seems to enjoy drinking and partying a little too much!! Jess is obviously a smart person just has some rough edges and misunderstood!! The last time he was on the show he also seemed to have straightened himself out! His visit with Rory made her rethink her dropping out of Yale and she then returned to school! Jess is also now one of the owners of a bookstore….remember!?! I think that Rory and Jess are soul mates and he needs to return so that the show will be good again. The storyline with Logan is making me ill!

I like Jess now… he grew up. But seriously, this thread is about the fab new spoilers for the new season which starts in just about 2 weeks. Can’t we keep the Jess argument elsewhere?
i am going to be seriously disappointed by Lorelai I think… the look at the end of Partings was angst and utter horror at what she had done. How can that be followed up with her “not being devastated and pitying Luke”????? I think its devastating that I am looking forward to Babbette’s undies and Paris’s Nazi tutoring more than Lorelai and Rory.

Maybe the main reason Lauren Graham can’t fake Lorelai’s heartbreak over Luke, and makes Lorelai seem to pity him instead, is that Luke has been getting increasingly spineless and neurotic, and the quirky but loveable Luke seems to be all but gone. Perhaps this “new” Luke is the “real” Luke? I assumed the producers were doing this intentionally so the audience wouldn’t care all that much when the relationship finally ended for good. If that’s what’s going to happen, though, I hope they don’t make us wallow through another three or four months of Luke’s negative attitude first. For one thing, I don’t find Lorelai (Lauren Graham, that is) very convincing at angst. She’s at her best when she’s flirty, sassy, and defiant, and she needs someone equally feisty and playful to interact with.

I say either bring back Jess, or Tristan, or have Rory get together with Finn, cause he’s not only cute, but he’s superbly funny!Logan is a creep, she should’ve dumped him when she found out about his cheating on her. That was inexcusible, i mean, he THOUGHT they were broken up, not KNEW! Totally different hemisphere! But anywayz, what they did with Lorelai and Christopher was just wrong! Lorelai belongs with Luke, u could tell from the beginning of the entire show, their chemistry. So that being said, Right now, the show is soo off my radar, i might watch the premiere, but from what i just read, it will be lacklustre.

Jesss!!! please bring him back! he was so cool and totally cute and plus another good thing…he made the show interesting. Whenever he came back i would be so happy and curious about what he would do next. I think i luv him so much because rory and jess were soo goo-goo-ga-ga over one another and i could tell rory just loved him. rory with logan is just dullllll

I think Rory should be with Marty. He’s cute, sweet, he gets her and they are a good match. I don’t like how Rory is when she is with Logan.

Ladies: Jess is out of the picture. He has another show. So does Tristan(Chad Michael Murray). And Finn graduated with Logan. I agree with SVS that Logan is dull… and Tracy you are spot on that Rory isn’t as likeable with Logan. How is a rocketship going to be romantic? I can’t figure that part of the premiere spoilers out… its just so bizarre.

Lorelai and Luke have obviously belonged together since the beginning. I like Logan, and I know that the Tristan guy has another show now, but out of wishful thinking I would like to see Tristan get his full chance with Rory. I think he’d be a very good rival for Logan.

rory never even went out with tristan. yeah they kissed att madelines party and stuff, but he is old news and even if on the very off chance he came back, i don’t think he would be enough for rory to leave logan for.

Bring Jess back!!! The show is so dull with Logan . Rory is meant to be with Jess, otherwise why did he have an appearance as a mature guy?

Lorilie is not in love with Luke. He is boring and there is absolutely no passion with Luke. She is too silly to have emotion as far as a love life. Rory needs to realize her boyfriend is in love with his money and will do whatever daddy and mommy say. He is never going to stand up to his dad..he has too much to lose.

I have always been quietly rooting for Christopher. Ever since he came to town on his bike and told Lorelai that he wanted to start a relationship up with her. Luke and Lorelai are good together but I think that they have an incredible friendship and I like her with Chris–they are an interesting couple.
Rory and Logan look happy together and I think that is what’s important. I am a Jess fan. Yes, he was a jerk but they progressed him in to the mature type of guy that I think is just Rory’s type. Its just too bad that he is busy with Heroes.

I hate that Lorelai slept with christopher, but I do agree, Luke has been a spineless moron in season 7. As for Rory and Logan they are ridiculously hot together! I do believe that is my favorite part of the gilmore girls! I just bought and watched season 6 all in one day, and totally cried when Logan left. Anyone know what channel season 7 is on or when it can be bought? Please let me know I’m dying to see what happens after the end of season 6!

i think Lorelai made a big mistake sleeping with Christopher and come on they are definatly going to get back together and Denise it is on 17 and Tuesday @ 8 doesn’t any body read people???????????
Rory and Logan make a perfect couple and they should get married. i think Lorelai should ask Christopher to marry her and he should accept but than the Lorelai mom will be very happy but not Rory i mean it is so obious

i really really really want jess to come back, and after reading all this it seems like almost everyone agrees with me. I’m going to have to say the show would be MUCH MUCH better if jess comes back. but right now that doesnt seem to be happening. If anything i would rather have Rory with Marty cuz logan is just annoying.

OMG, are you serious that jess is not coming back? I mean, the season is not finished, and i know that Jess (milo ventimiglia) is in Heroes now. it is soooo obvious that Jess and Rory have that.”something” between them….I think it will be a very big dissapointment for everybody, if jess wont be with rory at the very and…..

Okay, I am with a great many girls here that Jess needs come back. I was a major fan of Jess and Rory before I knew the actor name and loved the actor himself. Bringing Jess back again would make me happy, I’d actually watch the show again if he came back. (As to Milo having another show, I watch said show, and I also know he will not have the show for long, they are going with a new cast and new story next season so he had time to come back. Just a thought.)
And then lastly Lorili and Luke not being together is totally wrong, particularly Lorili going back to Christopher.
