Lorelai and Christopher… his confession
I know I haven’t done the recap for "Lorelai’s First Cotillion" yet, but I know y’all need a place to discuss Christopher’s confession to Lorelai.
What do you think? Her reaction? Why then?
Now, we have the wedding shocker, so we know what’s coming. But I just know there must be some other shocker in there. They never go from A to B in the Gilmore Girls.
Thoughts?

Okay…some of you might hate me for saying this…but it was great! I would have totally melted if I was her. NOt that I completely trust him, or anything, but come on! To be told your the love of someone’s life, how do you pass that up?? She NEVER heard that from Luke. That’s one thing I always hated about their relationship. I tell my husband all the time that I love him! That’s what you do!! I think she should be in a relationship where someone will tell her how much she means to them. I love being in a relationship like that!
Anyway, on another note, I thought Lane was great in this episode! Funniest part ever in the whole episode was when Zach runs off saying he has to check on Brian because he must be freaking out! :) I was cracking up! :)
Well…that’s all. I don’t know where all this is going, but I guess in the end, the most important thing is that Lorelai and Rory are happy. That’s all!

I thought Christopher’s confession was sweet but also a little odd. Yes, wow, I totally would melt if somebody said that to me (and I agree with you, Cathy, about the whole lack there of from Luke), but coming from him, I’m not sure he can be trusted yet. I mean, why is he all of a sudden completely in love with Lorelai? They’ve gotten “together” several times before and it was just a flippant thing for both of them, but this time he’s all hung up on it. That’s just my take on the whole thing. I loved Lorelai’s face when he said that to her though. I couldn’t tell if she was shocked, or temporarily annoyed that he keeps bringing it up. However, as we saw from the last scene, she takes him up on his offer, I think simply because she is lonely and needs a man in her life (same way she has always been).
I do have a question for everybody though: Do you think that Lorelai is willing to date Chris again because she realized that some things her parents wanted for her weren’t all that bad? Basically, is she trying it to see “what could have been” if she hadn’t run away from it 22 years ago?

Yea that’s exactly what I think. In her speech (with the poptarts) at the beginning of the episode, she mentions that maybe she’s only dated the men she’s dated because her parents didn’t approve of them. I agree Chris’ confession was sweet, and I really don’t have anything against him. He may be sporadic, but Lorelai is as well. The truth is, though, that Lorelai doesn’t love Chris- she told that to the psychiatrist that Emily tried to set Chris up with, remember? She doesn’t love Chris and never will, and I guess it’s going to take her “redating” him to figure that out…bring back Luke! :( I find his lack of love confessions endearing- that’s just who he is people! He’s made mistakes but he always loved Lorelai, we all know that.

I have to admit that Christopher’s proclimation was very moving. I actually felt for him. I was like what the hell, through caution into the wind and try it. I would guess that they will be some kind of relization that Loreli really loves and misses Luke.
Also, in “Loreli’s first cotillion” when Babbit and Miss Patty are at Luke’s trying to figure out what was different about the place after the repairs that were made, was anyone else waiting for Babbit to realize that it was Loreli that was missing?

DA: I do think that she’s trying to know “what could have been”. I think she’s wondering “Do I love Chris”? “Did I refuse to marry Chris because of my parents”? “or is it because I truly don’t love him?”
Christopher is slowly starting to win me over and Season 6 is slowly starting to make sense to me. Don’t get me wrong - I still believe Luke and Lorelai belong together.
However, I think Lorelai needs to formally date Christopher to realize that he’s not the one for her. When you think about it, Lorelai never quite got over Chris, and Luke never quite got over Lorelai not getting over Chris (I hope that made sense). Everytime Chris is around, Luke feels uneasy - this goes to show that he doesn’t fully believe that Lorelai is over Luke. Until Luke can fully trust Lorelai (and until Lorelai can fully trust herself), they cannot be together.
Ultimately, I think the presence of Christopher is what will bring Luke and Lorelai together.

OMG!! Lorelai made me so mad in this episode! The whole thing about dating men because her parents wouldn’t approve….come on!!! Did Luke and their relationship really mean that little to her…was it all just because she didn’t want to listen to her parents??

I agree with almost everyone on here. Christopher’s confession was very moving and Lorelai should be affected by it. The bad thing is, that a lot of stubborn L/L shippers will hate Christopher even more because of it. It makes no sense to me, but hey, it’s their choice to hate Christopher. Luke and Lorelai hardly ever told each other that they loved each other. And they did a terrible job showing it. Maybe they weren’t ready for each other…

chris’ was very moving, i think that chirs will bring lor and luke back together. i think that cris is going to somehow show lor that luke is the one for her. i also relised that luke and lor NEVER admitted their love for each other, although a lot of kissing. it’s sad to watch season 6 on the ABC family which they are playing right now because i know that they won’t make it . i’s stil standing by the fact that lor and chris might get married in another counrty and not have it be offical in the US.
this is the perfect song to describe luke and lor’ relashonship, even lor and chris’ more this then the other. You’ll be in my heart from tarzan hre are the lyrics http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/philcollins/youllbeinmyheart.html

The only thing different in the diner was Luke’s new hat. Not Lorelai missing. She wasn’t ALWAYS there. He changed his hat because the one he’s been wearing for years is the one Lorelai gave him in the first season. This one was balck and bigger - it covered more of his forehead.
I think Lorelai should know better than to date Christopher again. He promised (at Sookie’s wedding) that this was for real and then immediately went back to Sherry without more than 5 minutes discussion w/ Lorelai. They’re never in the right place at the right time together and this certainly isn’t the right time for Loreali.

what? why would she be in her ex-fiances diner when she’s mad at him. she wouldn’t go into Luke’s in the season 5 brackup.

Actually, it was Rory who pointed out Luke’s new hat. She was in there talking to Lane.

I was very much moved by his proclamation of love. It was sweet and endearing. I have never been a big fan of Chris, he’s too childish, but that speech was just really cute, made me feel all mushy :-) And I’m not a mushy person!
Having said all that, I’m really not sure Lorelai and Chris are meant to be together, I kind of have to see how this will pan out.
Oh, and slightly off topic, Rory and Logan sending each other spicy text messages, hahaha, I thought it was hilarious, Rory seemed so out of her element on that one.

I don’t care who she ends up with, I just want him to really love her and show it. Her and Luke were getting extremely stale! I mean he wouldn’t even talk to her about his daughter for crying out loud. And that happened right after he and her promised each other not to keep secrets about anything. I would feel betrayed and it probably would have been over right from there. Don’t know if it will or should work out with Chris, but I do know that she owes it to herself to find out. You guys are right, she will never truly be happy with Luke until she knows its not right with Chris. But who knows, maybe it will be right with Chris. I could be okay either way!

yeah i thought that was wierd how they had just promised to tell each other every thing. i would have deffintky have felt bertrayed. i think it’s wierd that your husband- t0-be is keeping that big a secert from u. i wonder when he would have told her is she hadn’t walked into the diner on them. i think he should have told april staright up why he was hiding her.

Everyone always says that they see chemistry between Luke and Lorelai, and I don’t really get it. I mean, clearly there is some sexual tension and that really deep we’ve-known-each-other-since-forever bond, but Luke and Lorelai have this INTENSITY that I just can’t get over! Think of it this way: if Lorelai and Chris were to get married, we ALL know that Lorelai would always wonder what her future with Luke could have been like. But if Lorelai and Luke were to get married, do you really think she would still wonder about Chris? I just don’t think so. I think the most obvious proof of this is in my favorite episode, Wedding Bell Blues- you can just see in their eyes how much in love Luke and Lorelai are, and even with Chris being there, Lorelai knows 100% who she’s in love with. It’s true love, I just know it is, and I can’t wait to see where it will all end up…hopefully a reenactment of her pregnant-with-Luke’s-babies dream… :)

I completely agree with you, Tara Ashley. I really don’t think they would have built up the intensity between Luke and Lorelai so much to just throw it out the window. Lorelai and Chris just don’t have the same intensity. It’s more like a routine thing for them.
“if Lorelai and Chris were to get married, we ALL know that Lorelai would always wonder what her future with Luke could have been like. But if Lorelai and Luke were to get married, do you really think she would still wonder about Chris?”
You are so right about that. She wouldn’t think about Chris- he’s only the person she runs to when she feels she has no one else. When her and Luke get married, I think that by then they will have learned to communicate better (among other details that ruined the engagement) and she will always have him to turn to instead of Chris. She won’t need Chris anymore!! I really hope it gets to this point. And that her dream from season 3 comes true. I can’t wait to see how this season plays out. It’s only a matter of time…

i don’t think that her dram from season three wil come true. but i do think that it would be stupid to have built uo the L&L relashosip and then toss it. can’t wait for the rest of season 6 or whatever this is. i alos hope roseenthal runs this over into another season.
