Rory’s future
In this episode, 7.07 "French Twist," Rory had a huge personal conflict.
"Everything is just ending. I feel like everything is over.", Rory cries.
She is done at the Yale Daily. And almost at Yale. And that in front of her is a huge abyss, and she doesn’t know what is in front of her or where she is going. Or how her relationship with Logan will play out. And she’s never experienced that. She’s always known what was ahead of her (minus, of course, that year she quit Yale).
What do you think her future holds for her? More school? What kind? Where will that take her? Straight to work? For whom? What will that hold for her and Logan? Can they each pursue their paths, and still stay together?

Rory HAS questioned her future many times- Ummm.. can we say one entire year off perhaps? Although rory is questioning her future i don’t think that means she will change her mind concerning her career goals- i think it just means she’s scared of the unknown, which is normal. And yeah- it’ll complicate her and Logan but if they are solid, which they appear to be- they will stick it out- and logan will probably be helpful. He seems so understanding. Personally i think their interests are similar and they should start up their own business- paper- whatever in the future. Rory seems happy with logan, they compliment each other . I think i know these characters pretty well- so my hunch is that they stay together, unless this new writer tries to write GG like it’s a soap opera and thus messes everything up.

The level of desperacy Gilmore Girls has gone to this season clearly shows Amy Sherman-Palladino was the soul of the characters. I have been watching this show religiously since its birth. Many Tuesdays I could not wait until 8pm to catch up with the gang in Stars Hallow. However now I find myself fast forwarding through most of it, only to end with a bitter taste in my mouth 60 minutes later.
Since when did Lorelai become so desperate to be cared for? She has always been a model of independence for single moms, this is a woman who left home at 16 with her infant daughter, cleaned hotels and now owns an Inn.
And Rory Gilmore with no direction? You have got to be kidding me! Rory has had direction since she could articulate the word. She has been dummed down, at the rate this show is going she might as well dye her hair blonde, record a computerized compact disk and rename herself Lindsay, Paris, Jessica, or Ashley.
The show was about a community that interacted with one another. David Rosenthal has killed this; it is now three to four stories about different cast members, many who do not inner act with each other. It is clear Mr. Rosenthal does not care about the flavor of Gilmore Girls, rather he is looking to write a primetime hit show, and lets face it, dumming down women and adding side stories is what are mainstream society is watching. At the rate this show is going Lorelai and Rory will probably take up ballroom dancing.
There is no idealism David Rosenthal could possibly think of that will save this show from its downward spiral into mundane television entertainment. It would behoove the CW to bring back Amy Sherman-Palladino unless the true intention is to let this show run its course and end as a soul sucking Desperate Housewives copy cat.

Have any of you actually graduated from college? I spent my high school and college years growing up as Rory grew up on TV, and identified with many of the decisions, situations and challenges that Rory has faced throughout the year. The personal crisis and breakdown in this past episode is just one more step in Rory’s life, and one more step in most everyone else’s lives when they think they have it all figured out. I really was glad to see that worry and hope at the same time from Rory because we all go through it at some point and it forces you to really think about what you want you’re future to be like, instead of “just going to law school.”
However, I do agree with most of you on most of the other points, the show is a lot different now than when it started, but what do you expect? It’s a TV show with characters that have to live lives and move on and can’t stay in Stars Hallow forever…

Thank you Liz so much for pointing that out. I was thinking the same exact thing. Having Rory break down like that was just another step in her development. What adult can honestly say that they have got to where they want to be without some breakdown and/or doubts along the way.
I feel like the unknowing that Rory is going through will prove to bring Rory and Logan closer in the end. There’s no doubt that he thought the same things just a year ago when he was graduating himself. And I hope he will do anything to try and help her.
As much as I dont like Lorelai being this uncertain and fragile woman, I don’t think its wrong for the show to take her in that direction. All the characters have to develop somehow. And look how long Lorelai had been waiting to be in love. The end of Season 6 she mentioned that she never wanted to marry Christopher when she was 16, and she didn’t love Max. But Luke..she loved him. And shes waiting her whole life to find that.Anyone who has gone through a situation of first TRUE loves…and most of all, losing that love can relate to her moments of desperation and sadness. Maybe not all of us to the same extent as Lorelai, but I can at least understand why she’s doing everything right now. And my heart keeps cringing with each episode.
She was always the independent woman taking care of everyone else, and shes a woman who deserves to have love and finally be cared for instead for once.
Savage Daughter, you have an amazing point with the random stories of different cast members. I have been trying to figure out what exactly was it thats been bugging me this season, and your point defintely helped me finally figure it out. Ive gotten fed up with those

I found Episode 7 to be a contrast of brilliance and simplicity. The scenes involving Rory were most moving. Her breakdown was so real, much more real than the ‘breakdown’ of Season 6. Kudos to Rosenthal for that. It was believable, and I think Bledel really shone as an actor here.
I think the contrast of the ‘perfect Rory’ image with this ‘looking into the abyss’ scene was, on the whole, much more effective than the contrast between ‘perfect Rory’ and the ‘ultimate mistake’ (dropping out of Yale). The Snap, Crackle and Pop scene was hilarious. I predict she’ll move into Graduate Studies, if the show continues. As for her and Logan, who knows. She hasn’t experienced the life lessons that her mother has, so I expect she’ll be more dependant on someone with whom she can be comfortable and share her life.
The scenes in Paris, however, were extremely painful to watch. The dialogue was simplistic and, well, boring (for lack of a better word). I tape every episode, and for the first time found myself fast forwarding through. Yawn.
I have no doubt in my mind that, by the series finale, Lorelai will not be with Chris, if with any man at all. What would we be saying if we stuck someone as strong-willed and independent as Lorelai Gilmore with a man at the end? Would we be expected to forget her courage, determination, and ability to go it alone? Lorelai is a source of admiration for her fans because of these traits. They are at the core of the show. As much as I enjoy the Lorelai/Luke dynamic, any intelligent writer will not simply throw her into the arms of a man just to create that ‘happily ever after’ending.

i think that is david r. is losing interest in viewers he should take off logan and put jess back at least as a friend for rory for a while.and he should make rory and logan split becuase it seems like they are different people now and its going to be hard to keep up with him so he should just take him off if you ask me.

“get over it change happens”??? how would you feel if you were feeling lost and confused and someone said that to you? as a 3rd year at university i was sitting in a room with 5 4th years when i watched the episode and every single one of them said how they were feeling exactly what she was. i think it was really good. ya, maybe it was kinda like the “everything’s falling apart” thing, but so what? haven’t you ever freaked out about the way your life is going? life’s scary, and if you can’t admit that you’re either lying or deluded.
“And Rory Gilmore with no direction?” ok, i don’t know how old any of you are, but as someone who is born the same year and month as rory, may i say i have a lot in common with her. (october 1984 btw.) i thought i had it all figured out too–i was going to be an electrical engineer. i’m going to university now for philosophy and math. it’s especially those people who seem so sure where they want to go that freak out about it later.
i think rory needs to go become a journalist, not go to grad school.

Okay, I totally agree with Michelle, but I want to say something different:
Can we just stop to think about a future with Rory AND JESS!
Can´t you guys just accept that he won´t come back. It bugs me so much when people wrote that he should come back and Logan isn´t good for her, Just get it, JESS is not coming back and Rory and Logan are meant for each other.
That is my opinion.

Doubtfull if the series will make into the new year. It will be upstaged by the newer up and coming new series, the gilmore girls have gone through all facets, and now are simply stale soap opera plots.

I think many university students who really wanted to enter the university but when did couldn’t find what she expected including me passes those stages. I wanted to quit and start all over just last month :). But I didn’t though.. I love the way that rory’s so much in real life in this aspect. By the way RORY and LOGAN foreveerrr! jess is a rude guy but logan is very romantic and kind. There is nothing much to be written about jess and rory, it’ll be boring believe me :).

I think that Rory and Jess sould get bak together. As far as i know, Rory loves Logan, but look how he treated her by sleeping with other women. You never know, maybe she partly likes him for his money? You see hows she always says stuff like she has a lot of money? ” Why didnt you call me? I could have been in Paris.”
Jess has done a total turn around. I think that Jess had a hard time expressing his feelings. Now that he knows how he truly feels about Rory i think that he should fight for her.
I also agree with a lot of you that we need Amy back to do the show. I am starting to get bored with the new episodes.Lorelai just isnt the same anymore. Yes, i like Christopher, but Luke loves her and has been waiting for her for years. She is just attracted to Christopher because she had his child and they knew eachother as kids.
Jess, COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rory & Logan are made for each other.
Logan is not perfect. He has many faults but throughout season 6 we watched how he grew up, how Rory helped him changed. From a playboy to a loyal boyfriend (except when they were separated of course). Then he easily invited L&L to the Martha vineyard for the valentine weekend because he wanted so much to spend time with Rory. I think the old Logan would never consider that option, he would prefer gallivanting with the life and death brigade and doing silly stunts than spending the weekend with your gf’s mom and her bf. He accepted his parents wishes to go to London and he came back a successful man. Logan IS growing up, be a better man because of Rory, because he loves her. I hope in season 7 we can see that Logan do the same for Rory. I would like to see Logan to be there when Rory needs support, advise and a friend. In all, they are perfect for each other.
As for Logan treated her badly, it’s not like Jess made Rory happy as well. Jess lied to Rory about going to school, he’s never there as a boyfriend, he showed no respect for Lorelai and Emily (for heaven’s sake they are the mother and grandmother of your gf) and he left without saying a word. No matter how much he loves her, it’s just not enough.

Ummm… Rory saying No to the proposal? Do I not know her character at ALL????? I mean - just the episode before she was totally lovey-dovey with him, then she drops him after considering the proposal for like 10 hours? I’m sorry. This whole plot depresses me. How sad. I mean, the show is sending the message that career is more important than love; and that lovers can be replaced. What a sad message. I mean, 22 is not 10, it’s ok to get engaged at 22! I’m not going to watch the last episode. It’s a sham. Rory’s character would have said yes, b/c she adores Logan. End of story. Poorly written. She passed him off w/o thinking twice really - I mean - she didn’t even tell her FRIENDS!!! I think Logan is better off w/o her - Stupid ending. Rory is just like her mom. Dropping guys left and right for stupid reasons.
