Gilmore Glamour

by Arieanna Schweber on January 17th, 2007

CW’s "CWhat’s Hot Hip and Happening" blog has a post on the fabulous fashion sense of Lorelai Gilmore.

She’s got that ability to put an outfit together - she can even do it for her husband. Remember when she insisted on dressing Christopher for his man-date with Jackson?

Anyway, there were lots of hidden messages in this episode that I am right to have my mind on accessories. Were you paying attention?

1. Richard and Emily gave Christopher and Lorelai a Kiki Smith etching for their wedding. That’s the very same artist who collaborated with Coach on these amazing canvas tote bags. Yes, they’re more than a thousand dollars, and, yes, there was a limited run of 100, but still, a girl can dream, right? I’m going to go buy a printed canvas tote at Urban Outfitters and just pretend…

2. It takes a special and truly brave gal to break the ridiculous don’t-wear-black-with-blue rule and the elder Gilmore Girl does just that, pairing her black top and gray pea coat with a long and skinny pale blue scarf…

3. …a scarf she may well have knit herself. I want to make two points here: first, I wrote about knitting, like, a century ago, so yes, it really is cool. And second, even Lorelai’s knitting bag is cool: it’s massive enough for her needles and yarn, but the print makes it so much groovier than anything anyone else at the knit-a-thon is carrying. I don’t know why I’m surprised - remember when they went to Paris? Lorelai’s polka dot suitcase? Functional bags can be fun too.

4. But Lorelai knows what rules to break and what rules to follow: her winter boots are long and black and hug her calves, and her leather saddle bag has a strap that’s just the right length so she can cradle it right under her arm. Those are two of the rules I try to live by.

Although I think the show went off onto a snooty path when Rory went to Yale and suddenly wore only designer clothes, I think they are both glamorous girls!

am I the only one that DOESN’T think pairing light pale blue with black is that daring? I do it a lot.

Haha I was totally thinking the same thing. I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to pair black and blue. Black and navy, I can understand, but black and light blue? Sheesh.

Go there, click the director’s cut tab and scroll down until you see Gilmore Girls. It’s the scene where Luke comes to the inn and there’s a hilarious part between Luke and Michel :)

hey people….here comes a HUGE news:

7.13 I’d Rather be in Philadelphia:

In the hospital waiting room, Lorelai, Rory and Emily anxiously await word on Richard’s condition. When Logan hears what is happening, he borrows a helicopter to be by Rory’s side, but Lorelai is unable to reach Christopher, who is still angry over their fight the night before. Upset by Emily’s attempt to remain calm by dealing with her social calendar, Lorelai is relieved when Luke shows up unannounced and volunteers to run errands for Emily. Christopher finally arrives to be with Lorelai, but the scene at the hospital is more than he can take.

    …I’m jumping here!!
    …So excited!!!

I can’t wait to see it!
I can’t wait to see it!

    ..Bye Bye Christopher!!
    …Hello Luke!!!

…Oh my God!! I’m so excited that i think i’m goint to have a heart attack!!

The contents of the director’s cut video smacks of Amy Sherman Pallidino influence - I had a feeling Dave Rosenthal would come thru the murky beginning of season 7. Go Dave & the cast!

As per the Rory thing - I was trying to explain to a friend who I’m loaning all of my GG seasons on dvd to that something changes with Rory around season 5. In season 4 she still dresses/acts/looks like regular rory but around th etime she gets bangs she also starts wearing make-up and wearing designer clothing. Ah well it makes for fun wannabe-shopping-eye-candy.
