Gilmore Girls - a short season 8?

Negotiations to bring Gilmore Girls back for an eighth season took a veddy interesting turn on Friday. According to multiple sources embedded deep inside Stars Hollow, Lauren Graham — she on which all things hinge — is allegedly warming to the idea of returning for a shortened season, a la Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond.
Word of this condensed scenario was "the talk of the set" on Friday, one day before shooting on the show’s current season was scheduled to wrap. My spy was quick to add, however, that nothing’s official and it’s very possible this whole thing could unravel before anything’s signed. One thing seems clear though: this little nail-biter is speeding toward a climax.
What do you think of a shorter season? It’s clear that the end of Season 7 is just a bit too tidy, but also a bit unfinished. Like they are rushing to finish plot lines "just in case", but in a way that would likely end up pissing most of us off. This might just be the solution!

To answer one of your questions, obsessed GG fan, a shortened season is just that. Short. There are not as many episodes as a reguar season, so instead of Gilmore Girls regular 22 episodes, this shortened season might have only 11 episodes.
I know everyone will be plenty angry if they do not wrap up our show in a good way. So maybe they should just do a shortened season to tie up loose ends, instead of this rushed Luke and Lorelai crap. They need to actually work out her, “sleeping around” problem, instead of just saying, “i’m sorry” and being done with it.

Worst Case Scenario: NO SEASON 8.
I would be estatic with 11 episode rather than none.
I will miss my fantasy life in Stars Hollow if they close it down in May! (I need to get a life).

To me, “Gilmore Girls” is both Lorelai and Rory. If it is just Lorelai, it really isn’t the “Gilmore Girls”.

i think it would be a great idea for a short 8th season. because if we stop now everyone will be upset with many questions unanswered! but a 8th season would be dragging it out. im soooooo happy there might be an 8th “short” season!

I like the idea, but I don’t think that it’s great. I mean, if they will make an 8th season,they should make it 22 episodes, not only 11 (like 7th heaven). A shortened 8th season would be totally silly… If they would do that, they just could stop after season 7!
Also when I really really hope there will be an 8th season, now I think it’s time to end and however, I am not a big fan of season 7, if I’m honest… in my opinion, it sucked in some parts.

I think, even if it’s cut short, that they need a season 8. The end of the season will be too rushed and we need to see the progress of the rushed Luke and Lorelai relationship as well as what ever Rory has in store for her. But it has to be Rory and Lorelai, not just Lorelai and not just Rory. It’s the Gilmore Girls and the their witty comebacks not the Gilmore Girl with a boyfriend from a rushed relationship.

Its a great idea! Friends shortened their schedule for many seasons and everyone loved them and kept tuning in! It sounds perfect! We can still get our GG fix and the actors/actresses will not be overwhelmed with the amount of work. Kudos to Dawn Ostroff if she pulls this one off!

Ooops! I ended the last message too early. My last point is there is so many more storylines that can keep the GG fresh that this could work for more than 1 additional season. I think that this can keep GG going for a long time without it feeling dragged out. Wow.. That’s great news!

I’d rather have a whole season, but hey, I’m willing to compromise! It worked out well with Friends, it gave them time to tie up loose ends and make viewers happy, and I think…hope that they could do that with Gilmore Girls! I’m glad that Lauren Graham is warming up to the whole idea and I’m also glad that it was suggested! It’s a good compromise so that everyone is happy! Thanks for letting us know!

Based on the Ausiello post, I think (and this is just a guess) that Lauren Graham is considering changing her mind on her prior refusal to do the show without Alexis Bledel.

I would love for them to put a shortened 8th season! It’s better then nothing! But i would still love for them to put a whole season instead of half! But i would seriously cry if thye took it off for good! LOL

i think it would be good to have a season 8 even if it is shorter just to tie up a few things. i do think the show should be ending tho. Rory is out of school now and will be moving to a new place. the show is about Rory and Lorelei. if they’re separated the show would just not be the same. i’m a huge GG fan and even tho i will be very sad when it ends, all good things must come to an end. if Rory and Lorelei must separate the show must end.

omg you can not stop making gilmore girls until like the 10th season is over! i am obsessed with it! ya sure it kinda seems like it is dragging on and on but i don’t care! omg I love the new episodes and now it is starting to get juicy! whenever I have a bad day because i am in a fight with a friend i come home and put on an episode of gilmore girls and it makes me feel so much better becuase they give good edvice on it! you can’t seriously take that away from kids! i know that some of my friends do the same thing! so please don’t stop keep going and going!

I think it could easily work, and like 7th heaven 11 could turn into a whole season. They just don’t need to be stupid and have a finale and then change their minds. Either end it or not, just make it clear thats what they’re doing.
I hate to be the one to say this, seeing as how gilmore girls runs my life (any thing that ever happens can come back to “that reminds me, once on gilmore girls”). But I would rather see it end with unanswered questions than to have a half ass job on season 8 because there really aren’t enough plot lines to make it work. At some point we will be left with that what happened next feeling, its like that with any tv show, I still wonder what happened on boy meets world what happened after they all went they’re seperate ways. The point is no matter how long the show lives not everyone will be satisified with how the writers and producers choose to end the series.

Ok so a short Season 8 just to tie up loose ends would be great, I don’t see how Rory could be a part of it though except over the phone possibly or a visit once maybe twice though since she is now on the campaign trail. But it would be great to wrap things up with Luke and Lorelai, although another (and I feel better way to do this) is to just do a two hour (movie like) show that would tie everything up, Sookie would have her baby, Luke & Lorelai would get married, yada yada yada whatever, either way though they seriously left some major ends that need to be tied!

I believe that the writers can pull off a Season 8 even 9 with Gilmore Girls. I have a few ideas of my own to keep it going. For instance: we followed Rory to college, why not now? Plus Lorelai should marry someone and settle, maybe another baby?? Come on creativeness is what this show thrives on. I know this may sound unappealing but what about a death?? Doesn’t have to be person, like when Babettes cat died….. just a few ideas. Not to mention what happened with Lukes daughter? Yeah she moved but they can bring her back. Maybe Jess too.

They cant change the plot if the Palledinos arent included. that’d be worse than ending the 7th season like that.Personally,Id rather have a few more seasons, but its real hard work 4 the actors. I would like a shortened season if there’s closure and is done right. Its better than nothing. I also think there should be something about jess and rory-jess is so much better than logan-have jess come to the wedding-something like that to keep it interesting with rory. Make Another Season!!!

I absolutely love Gilmore Girls. I really hope they continue with something whether it is a shortened season 8 (which I think would be awesome), or a movie. Because, I was just not pleased with the way it was “ended”. It was a horrible, it was rushed and nothing was accomplished. It really makes me sad. Honestly, I really hope that the Palladinos come back- the show just isn’t the same without Amy’s genius writing. Do you guys really think they will bring back Gilmore Girls?

I’d be happier with a full season 8 but if I have to settle with a short one then that I could learn to deal with. My younger cousins and i watched the box set obsessively and I was so happy when i fell ill and was able to stay home from school and watch it all day long. It’s depressing when they end and i want more. PLEASE Gilmore girl’s moreeeeeee…

I would be so glad if there was another season even a short season i watched the last season and cryed i only cryed one other time on the season when jess left but i cryed at the end! please make a better ending wrap it up alot better! And make rory pick a guy!!!!

I agree with Anne on most of the things she said but, what about “rory dose she get engaged or not” thats is what i want to know.Also dose she get back together with logan or dose she marry or date someone else? And yeah what about luke and lorelai do they get married or not? that is what i would like to know. i don’t care if it is a short season, it just as to rap every thing up. cause season 7 did not, it left every one hangign, and thats not cool. i wanna know what happens. do they or do they not. I waited so long to get series 7 on DVD, I can’t believe it could be the last. I had major exams and assignments due, so refused to let myself watch even one episode as I knew it wouldn’t stop there. I still want more there still so much for the girls to do JO. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Uk

At this point to be honest I would be happy with what ever they are willing to give us as viewers be it long or short season. As long as they give us the ending we have long been waiting for with L&L(happly ever after and 4ever) The wedding of the century that will bring the whole community of stars hallow together and even Emmily and Richard accepting Luke as their son-in-law. In season 4 lauren had a dream where she was woken up with many clocks and when she came down stairs luke was in the kitchen making her breakfast, we need to see that happen together for ever.

I hope they consider to make Amys 7th season as a movie. I’m 10000000 … % sure it would be better than DR crap and I want to know how Amys story would be. Still hope they will decide to continue the show after the movie then on tv… of course with ASP.
There are a lot of seasons left and it’s never too late to continue GG. Fans would watch anyway.
