TV Guide Podcast on Season 8
lorelaisgirl on FanForum has created a transcript of the latest TV Guide podcast (April 20) with Ausiello, Daniel Manu, Angel Cohn and Maitland McDonagh.
Here are some very exciting portions related to Gilmore Girls Season 8:
DM: And some other big news in our little bubble was news that Mr. Ausiello broke. About Gilmore Girls and a possible shortened 8th season.
MA: I think we can change it to likely at this point.
DM: Well that’s news, because a lot of people were wondering about, you know, how likely is it. You mention it is a possibility; someone actually wrote in saying that ‘a friend of mine, an intern at the WB,—
AC: CW
DM: —says they’re tearing down the sets as we speak’.
AC: Oh. Warner Bros.
DM: Yeah, ‘they’re tearing down the sets as we speak.’
MA: Well, anything is possible, I mean, until a deal is signed. And nothing is certain. However, at this wrap party on Sunday night, everyone was talking about it as if it was a done deal. You know, it wasn’t a done deal, but there was no signature, but I guess the feeling is, it’s just now paperwork.
DM: Interesting.
MA: But I’m not gonna go ahead and declare that it’s definitely coming back, because, you know, Lauren could change her mind at the last minute.
Here’s a great answer regarding whether or not Alexis Bledel would be featured strongly in Season 8:
MA: Well, I think— I don’t think Alexis Bledel is the hold up. Ultimately it’s gonna come down to Lauren. I think Lauren is gonna base her decision on what Alexis decides. Like, if Alexis says “I’ll do 8th episodes”, Lauren has to decide “is that enough for me to wanna come back?” I really think that’s how it’s gonna come down. I really think the final person is gonna be, it’s riding all on Lauren, you know. My feeling is that if they come back for 13 episodes, Alexis will probably in all of them.
If we go to Season 8, there is no guarantee David Rosenthal would continue on as the main guy.
So, we’ll see!!

Isn’t there a contest going on now where you can win passes to go see the set of Gilmore Girls? They can’t be tearing down the sets now if there is that contest. I think it’s pretty likely it will come back partially. It’s good.

Ausiello keeps talking about LG’s involvement or possible involvement), but nothing about AB.

I Am Really Confused I Heard People Say Its A Go For An 8th Season And I Heard There Isnt?! We As Fans Of The Show Should At Least Have An Idea What The Verdict Will Be.. We Are Dying Out Here!!
If Lauren Doesnt Come Back There Is No Show And I Feel That Alexis And Lauren Have A Bond And If One Of Them Leaves The Other One Will Do The Same.
Plz I Really Would LOVE it If We Could Have Another Season Just To Enjoy The Last Shows Of Our FAVORITE Show!
Great 8 Mandate, Season 8 Supporter!!

New stuff on crazy-internet-people-
First, there is a slightly longer promo for the next episode. It isn’t really that much different, but here-
http://heloworks.com/Gilmore_Girls/Promos/GGPromo042207.mpg
Then, no big deal, but here is a little thing about the Rory Logan break up-
“No season-ending show is complete without a break-up (or two). On Gilmore Girls, Rory (Alexis Bledel) will graduate from Harvard, dump Logan and move to Iowa for a job with an online magazine.”
Obviously this person didn’t see the episode where Rory switched from Harvard to Yale.
Then, I’m not going to post it, but somewhere in cyberspace, someone said that Veronica Mars will skip a week, to make way for a two hour season finale of Gilmore. But, they are most likely wrong, according to crazy-internet-people.
Then, a little happy Luke and Lorelai spoiler-
“I was told that they wouldn’t break-up again. Not even if there’s an 8th season…”
That’s it.

I’m pretty sure the tearing down of the sets is the Yale set since they don’t need it anymore. That was already posted a while ago.

This whole talk about is the show going to end or not is making me
sick, I use to care but not anymore. It’s stupid to even talk about it.

Deborah, I’m pretty sure that you’re right that what was spotted was that they’re striking (tearing down) the Yale sets. And likely Paris’s apartment. And probably at the very least Logan’s apartment in New Haven/Yale, as even if Logan remains on the show next season, at the very least *that* set would be gone. And it’s a big maze of sets-within-sets, too.
But add to that the rest of the Logan-related sets if Rory’s break-up with him is permanent. So with virtually all of the current Rory-related sets gone, that’s around a third to half of the sets right there that are going to get struck even *with* the show going onto s8.
Also, note that I used the industry term “striking” the set rather than “tearing down.” Most often, when sets are struck, they aren’t destroyed (ie: torn down), they’re put into storage to be rented out by the studio to movies or other shows, often repainted or otherwise significantly altered, sometimes even retrieved from stock to be used on the same show (perhaps even if Rory’s breakup with Logan is permanent, she might visit him and they’ll still need the NYC apartment). I doubt that the Yale sets are going to be destroyed as they’re so close to the real thing that they’re too useful, but really, the studio won’t really destroy anything as long as it’s still useful.

Hey guys, i can’t open the file of the pilot of Amy’s new show.
…Damn it…
And about “tearing down” the sets…i don’t believe it’s true. I think they gonna keep with the sets and everything for a little while, even if the show doesn’t continue.A lot of people only go to the WB tour because of GG, and the sets, the town, it’s a classical thing already, i think they may keep with everything, for the tourists, you know, at least for a while.
Can you imagine the sadness that must be watching all of the town things beeing distroyed, no Luke’s diner, no Taylor’s market anymore, no Miss Patty’s, no Lorelai’s house anymore!!…It’s so sad!…..My GG….

Manu — never fear, the exterior sets of SH are never going to be going anywhere. They were originally built a lonnnnng time ago for some movie that I forget and were then redressed for the original Robert Preston-starring movie version of The Music Man and then redressed numerous times, representing Hazzard County on The Dukes of Hazzard and even Smallville on Lois & Clark. Heck, the exterior of Lorelai’s house was the exterior of Uncle Jesse’s house on Dukes and it isn’t even part of the downtown SH exteriors! (It’s about two blocks away). Even when Gg eventually ends (hopefully, 2-4 seasons from now), those sets aren’t going anywhere because they’re permanent sets.
So when they’re talking about sets being struck, it’s interiors — and it’s clearly all or almost-all Rory-related sets since Rory’s storyline will definitely have a major change of venue next seasona, just as it did between s3 and s4, when the Chilton sets were permanently struck so that the Yale sets could come in. IOW, after s3, there was no point in continuing to have the Chilton sets up when they weren’t going to be used anymore. Likewise, there’s no point in keeping the Yale sets up after this season for any reason. And it costs the studio a lot of money to keep a set up, tying up a soundstage for who knows how long, when it’s not being used on a regular basis.

I would have to say that I am really hoping for an 8th season, this last season has taken a wierd turn and now it is finally getting back to being a Gilmore show and all within a few episodes of the season (series? :( ) finale. They are moving forward, but it is at the wrong time, they wasted more than half of the 7th season in a halt that has taken the show in a terrible spin. I would like to see it all wrap up and finish the stories. Gilmore Girls would be ending too soon to finish everything that the past seasons has been going with. I for one would like a good ending on the show, this just seems too abrupt of an ending, nothing except L&L will have finished their story, and I think that there could be potential to a better finishing on the L&L story. Just a kiss in the ending? Naw, I think the GG fans would like to see more of them and more of their story. I think in 13 episodes they could wrap it up to be a beautiful ending. As for Rory, I am rooting that she and Logan have a more blissful ending than what is planned, but that is just me. :)
