Ausiello Vodcast Interview with Lauren Graham

by Arieanna on May 9th, 2007

Ausiello delivers his latest vodcast titled "’Gilmore’ Reunion Movie in Works?"

Here is the transcript:

Ausiello: Welcome to the special Gilmore Girls Farewell Edition of the Ausiello Report. I’m TV Guide’s Scoup D’Jour in Mourning, Michael Ausiello.

I know what you’re thinking. ‘Michael, what the heck are you doing at work? Shouldn’t you be at home grieving the passing of Gilmore Girls?’ It’s a fair question.

Unfortunately, TV Guide’s HR policies specifically forbid bereavement days to mourn the cancellation of a tv series. A little short-sighted if you ask me, but whatever. I’ll get through this tube tragedy the same way I’ve gotten through all the others: by immersing myself in scoop.

First up, here’s my exclusive post-mortem with Gilmore’s main Girl, Lauren Graham. I pressed her about the prospect of a Gilmore Girls tv movie scripted by series creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Here’s what she said:

Lauren Graham: It’s like when you break up with someone and then someone asks, ‘Do you guys think you’re going to get married?’

I don’t know. We just broke-up. You know. I really don’t know. There have been people who have done those things in a way that I think the X-Files movie was really cool, you know? But they weren’t done. They were sort of still in the thing. I don’t know if there is a reason, you know, to go back.

Ausiello: When I mentioned to her that some of us want, need, to know that this isn’t really the end, she replied:

Lauren Graham: But doesn’t it make them feel better that I’m having dinner with Kelly and Ed? Sit around the dinner table and actually, like, speak to each other.

Ausiello: Well, an invitation to that dinner would make me feel better, sure. Anything short of that, not so much.

I got briefly excited when Ausiello said the vodcast would mention the possibility of a Gilmore movie, but I should have known that it wouldn’t actually be anything more than Lauren hinting that it pretty much wasn’t going to happen. Oh well. Thanks for posting the transcript! I’ve loved this site, and I’m only sorry I found it so late in the game!

This is great a movie idea. I would agree. The show ended randomly and not many really thought it would. So theres more that could be added or just the movie could say what happens…

I’m a bit dissappointed that the girls weren’t more realistic with their negotiations.

I think they both believe that there will be greener pastures out there.

Just ask Micheal Richards about life after a long running sitcom. How about Debra Messing? Heard anything from her after ‘Grace” ended?

Something similar happened with Charlie’s Angels when Farah Fawcett got overconfident in her negotiations - same with Suzanne Sommers on Three’s Company.

Neither of them ever again achieved the fame and stardom they had on the series - and they were, ostensibly, the ’stars’ even on an ensemble cast.

Graham’s been in a few movies - she has to play the ‘funny’ one one all the time.

Bledel has more leading girl allure, but she was only the lead in one lame movie. She played a prostitute in that noir cartoon movie - otherwise, what else has she been in?

The best they can hope for is to make a lot of quest appearances on other WB shows - maybe like Supernatural or Veronica Mars

Imagine Bledel acting with Padelecki from Supernatural - a strange reunion. That show is so lurid I’m not sure I’d like to see her getting possessed or murdered by demons.
