Goodbye Gilmore Girls

by Arieanna Schweber on May 16th, 2007

I don’t really know how to say goodbye to the Gilmore Girls, and all the memories I’ve had over the years. So, I’ll take a cue from Rory and just call it a "see ya later" instead.

Now, many people are asking what’ll happen to this site now that there are no new episodes. So, I’d like to set all your minds at ease and say it’s not going anywhere. So long as there are a lot of fans here supporting the site, we won’t go away. Instead, we’ll just have to be creative.

This site will cover:

  • Cast appearances & candids
  • Cast photoshoots & magazines
  • New movies with the cast
  • TV shows with the cast (maybe some spoilers, news, updates, casting, etc)
  • Interviews or gossip about cast members
  • Reliving Gilmore memories & fan tributes

There have also been some great suggestions that we could go forward with, if you are all interested:

  • Re-watching Gilmore Girls from Season 1 - we’d need to put it on a schedule so everyone could participate, and I’d like to know what kind of content you want out of it. Pictures? Recaps? Discussions?
  • Collective works - best quotes, best scenes, best fan videos, etc.

What do you think? I am open to ideas. This site is as much yours as it is mine. And I’d love to keep this incredibly vibrant community going.

Yeah!!! I love the idea of watching GG from the beginning all over again! I meant thats what I will do anyway. ;-)
And I want everything, pictures, recaps (even though I don´t know what that is, greetz from Germany) and the discussion after. I loved this side, so I think we should go on with all of that. And the pilot would be a perfect start. (Maybe we can pretend that the whole Chris-thing in season 7 did not happen? :-) )

Yeah! I love the idea of watching the GG all over again… Well that´s what I will do anyway, so let´s just do it together. Post a schedule ;-) I want all, pictures, recaps (even though I don´t know what that is… greetings from Germany ;-)) and the discussion! Maybe we can pretend that the whole Chris-situation did not happen?

I love this show and I was very sad that this was the very end……. I have all 6 seasons on dvd I noticed on their final episode that they did leave an option of maybe one day they may come back just the way it ended gave room to the imagination that they continue with maybe Rory going cross country and becoming a famous reporter and finally Luke and Lorelai showing them as finally getting their life started and watching Lanes babys grow and Emily finally comming to her senses as
Richard did when he was talking to his daughter finally giving her the respect a whole lot of episodes can really start from the ending and I in my opinion Love the show cause it is so true to life real small town life …………. I came from a small town like stars hollow everyone knew everyone and it was like this the town stood behind you when you had problems ….. they had a taylor they had a kirk a ms Patty I related so much to this show reminded me that life goes by to fast and we get caught up in this world and actually life was
really laid back in that small world ……. anyway, glad to see the website will still be around …. I know I would move to Stars Hollow in a heartbeat if I could ………… thanks for wonderful 7 years

Sam, I think the whole GG-fan-community has to come out of la-la-land and face reality. It´s sad but it´s over.
Btw I really like the “till the fat lady sings” part. I don´t get it, but I like it :-)

hey, it’s the first time I write in this comment-box! I’m from Slovenia, and I love GG! It’s very sad that it is over and also the ending wasn’t good. But it is so nothing lasts for ever! I know that this isn’t a good talk for this ending, but be realistic.
p.s.: My english isn’t good, so don’t be mad at me:)
    Have a nice day!

Arieanna: You have done a wonderful service for all of us Gilmore Girls fans - young and old alike. I am between Graham and Bishop’s age and I have thoroughly enjoyed the opinions of all who have written through your site, although I am probably outnumbered by the younger crowd. It has, however, been delightful. My son and his wife got me hooked on the show and once I started watching, I have never looked back!

I will enjoy whatever you decide to do with your site and hopefully participate.

    Thanks again.

    Arieanna,

I’m pleased to hear that you’re not laying this site to rest! You’ve been a true center of gravitational pull for all of us who love our Gilmore Girls. This site has been a warm, comfortable place to come whenever I needed my GG fanatical fix.

I don’t comment often, but I did want to take a moment to let you know that I am sure that I am one of many, many, many who appreciate you, your love of GG, and all you’ve done to keep us UNITED!

I’ll continue to visit regularly. I visit at least twice a day! — once in the morning to see what’s new and once when I get home from work and sometimes on my lunch break…like now!

RE: Feedback on the ideas –
Re-watching episodes sounds like great fun but a lot of work. If you’re up to it, I bow to your dedication!

Keeping us updated on cast member whereabouts is more than we can ask for and I once again appreciate the time you put into this.

Again, Arieanna, THANKS for all you’ve done for us! Keep up the great work!

Now to start a new chapter in the gilmoregirlsnews saga…

I love GG, and cannot believe that it’s over. I would love to start over with Season I, and think it’d be fun to keep the schedule, i.e. watch one episode every Tuesday night. Thanks for all your work, Arieanna!

I would love to rewatch Gilmore girl from season 1. We could do it just like we would do for season 7, with recaps and pictures and things like that. Plus, Tim from Gilmore-isms.com is going to start putting up the Gilmore-isms from the first episode on in his emails. And it wouldn’t be that hard to do the same schedule. There are a number of places that I can think of off of the top of my head where we can get the schedule, and we can count hiatuses and things like that. That personally is my favorite idea. It works for those who don’t have the DVDs also because there are tons of places where you can download them from.

I am also excited to see what is coming up next in the actor’s careers. I already know that Matt and Scott are having pilots set up for them. Matt already shot one. I am most interested in Lauren, though I would like to hear about everyone else.

BEfore I say anything, I’d just like to say that I love this site with a passion. It is by far my favorite Gilmore Girls website. Very up to date, very active. =] Great job, Arieanna.

Now, I like the idea of everyone rewatching on a schedule, but how would people that dont have the DVD’s watch?

I also like the idea of there being a section of the site dedicated to memorable quotes of Gilmore Girls. Perfect for putting in an away message or on a blog site profile =]

    Cough cough http://gilmore-ism.com/ cough cough.

Though I think it would be more fun if we did it ourselves. I already have a list. :)

One prospect for keeping an ongoing GG site:

WGN/CW is big on recycling stars in other shows. It only stands to reason - once an actor has shown his mettle on one show and is a known commodity, he is more likley to be cast in a new series, or as a guest on an existing one.

Look at “Supernatural” - it’s basically a repackage of the Rory boyfriend from GG and the Lana Lane lover from “Smallville”

I could easily see some of the character actors from GG going on Veronica Mars as guest stars - then you could chronicle this stuff as part of the GG “legacy” website.

Who know? There is a great possibility CW might spin something off of GG that still exists in the same TV universe - something like “The Jeffersons” from Archie Bunkier or “Gomer Pyle USMC” from Andy Griffith.

Hey, it could happen - especially if they think they have a built in ‘niche’ audience already. I’d love a show about Luke and his daughter where maybe Lorelai would be only an ensemble character - keep the whole Stars Hollow universe.

    It really could happen.

I think it would be great if we watched Gilmore Girls from season 1! That would be awesome! Just post the information on when we are going to and I am there. Gilmore Girls NEVER ends in my book!

I think we should have EVERYTHING you have listed arieanna…that would be soo much fun!!

  • Arieanna
    May 16, 2007 at 1:15 pm

em - so, a quotes section? Something we do with each episode maybe?

KingElvis - that is very true. Indeed, Scott Patterson’s contract with the WB guarantees him a season somewhere. So, that’s good :)

I love the idea of watching the seasons over again all together. That would be…amazing and totally fun.
I love all the ideas there are going around for this site.
    I’m willing to participate!!
This is definitely my favorite Gilmore Girls site.

I would love to see this site continue on. I think maybe the whole “watching everything over” thing would be a great summer shindig for the sites and guests of the site. It’s always fun to re-watch all the fun episodes. Maybe one episode a week and the entire week is spent discussing favorite quotes, scenes, characters, etc. Everything we can think of even to how it was shot (for those crazy wanna-be film majors like me). Discussing the music played in the show would be nice too. Keep lane in our hearts and minds as well.

And all your ideas for continuing this site are amazing and a great way for us to always remember the show and it’s wonderful cast members.

Btw, The song playing in the back while
Luke and Lorelai kissed is called “Inside Out” by the Mighty Lemon Drops (yes, that’s the correct band title). The song came out in the 80’s and I actually have this song on my iPod already so I loved hearing it on the show.

Yeah! That would be so cool, Arieanna, with a quotes section for every episode. But, like I said before, that is basically what Tim from Gilmore-isms.com is doing with his Newsletters. Maybe he can contribute? He has posted on here before. I’ll ask him if you want.

omg i was soooo sad when gilmore girls finished coz i reckon gilmore girls is the best show ever aired on tv. i have seasons 1-6 on dvd and i can’t wait till season 7 comes out. They HAVE to do another season or something coz otherwise i’ll cry :(

I also thought that is wasn’t a very good ending, as they left heaps of things untold.
