em’s tour of Stars Hollow
em left a comment on another post about her WB tour of Stars Hollow. Or what’s left of it, anyway. I decided to share it in a new post. It’s so sad!
So I just got back from LA. It is late and I am tired but I have enough energy to write about my adventures in the WB Studios/LA.
Ummm, I’ll start with the studio tour by saying I did have tears in my eyes at one point. I could only take about 3 or 4 pictures because American Eagle was using the town for one of their photo shoots or commercials or something, I am not sure which because I wasn’t really paying attention in the first part of the town tour because I was a little pissed that we couldn’t take any pictures. But, anyway, we walked in by Weston’s bakery which is now an empty room with nothing on the windows, past Dean and Lindsay’s home when they were married, and into the town square, where all the signs were gone and nothing looked the same (and it wasn’t only because American Eagle was in the midst of dressing up the town in Christmas decorations). We didn’t get a chance to walk down the street that starts with Kim’s Antiques and also has Sookie’s and the Twickham house on it because of American Eagle, but we could look down it a little. And the Twickham house looks nothing like it did when the show was filmed there. I almost didn’t recognize it. The columns and the porch on top are gone. Then we walked down the street in front of Stars Hollow High (all thats left of the sign over the door is the four holes on the corners where the nails holding up the sign were) and towards Doose’s (which now had words on the windows suggesting the store is now selling antiques instead of food). If anyone remembers that building across the street from Doose’s, first it was the library then it was the bank, you could still see the outline of the words “Stars Hollow Bank” on top, but just the outline. The actual words are gone. Then we turned left to go down Luke’s street. We were able to walk into the Soda Shoppe, but I went straight to the window between the shop and Luke’s, and thats where the tears started to flow. Luke’s is completely empty. There is absolutely nothing in there. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. I turned around to take a look at the Soda Shoppe, where there was still some of the counter left, but not in its original spot. Nothing else was in there, not even a sign. We walked through the back door of the shop and into the back door of Luke’s (they are connected in the back, and the tears just got worse. On the floor was a tire mark, from when Kirk drove through the diner. There was still a space where you could see where the counter once was (yes, they took out the counter). On the walls you could still see the spots where the shelves once were, and the thing that really got to me, where the “No Cell Phones” sign was. I put my hand on the space between the kitchen and the rest of the diner and looked into the kitchen (where there was barely enough room for a stove). When I picked my hand back up, it was black from the dust that had gathered. I walked around to where the stairs to Luke’s apartment were, and they led to nowhere. Then, I had to leave. So I put my hand where the doorknob used to be (that was gone too) and walked out, the bell chiming only in my head. But, I was then comforted by the big button and sign that was still on the lamp post to cross the street (though the button wasn’t yellow anymore). Across the street, the park next to Miss Patty’s was bare, as was Miss Patty’s. Then we had to leave. In the museum, all they have for Gilmore girls is the Stars Hollow sign from the town square, the Luke’s sign, an outfit of Lorleai’s, an outfit of Rory’s, and a Luke’s menu. Speaking of which, the outside of Luke’s has nothing on it. The William’s Hardware sign is gone, as is the yellow writing on the glass. Now all that there is is the word “Cafe” written in ugly green lettering twice on one side of the building that wasn’t there when the show was being filmed. Some things I learned is that Luke’s apartment set was really built in the building across the street from Luke’s diner, and all of the interior sets are gone, except for part of the Gilmore Mansion, which they are combining with another set for a new show, but they wouldn’t tell us which. Just that it has something to do with a sport, basketball I think.
That’s it. It was half depressing and half cool. I had fun though. I will put the pictures I could take up tomorrow. Also, I went to the restaurant that Lauren’s an investor in, ‘Grace’. I didn’t get a chance to eat there but I took a picture of it!
I hope you can email over your pictures, em, when you have them, so we can post them on GilmoreGirlsNews. Thanks for sharing your story!

That is just sooo sad!
…I can’t believe it all just gone!
The set from our Gilmores should be forever, should be like a museum, should be like eternal!….Gilmore Girls was unic….they shouldn’t do that!
It’s just so sad!
….And em, what about Lorelai’s house?
They already destroyed it?
….I can’t believe the place where our Lorelai, our Rory, our Luke, Lane, Miss Patty, Bebbete, Kirk, Sookie, Taylor, etc lived for seven years, the place WE lived for seven years…or better, six years, cause this last season it wasn’t GG, …gone….forever!
Our diner!
Our town!
Our Stars Hollow!
…I can’t believe Luke’s, PUFF…gone!
God, this is a nightmare!
….And i can’t believe i will never be able to go on a tour to see what’s left of my Stars Hollow, of my girls….

Yeah I went there a couple months ago and lukes was gone and changed for another show/movie and on the window it said “De La Rosa Cafe” and everything in the town was pretty much gone. My tour guide also said that they took down the interior sets of gg pretty much right after they filmed the last episode.

I’ll email the picture soon, tomorrow probably. Just have to load them on my computer And Manu_GG, we couldn’t see Lorelai’s house, or at least the tour guide never got around to it. I think we couldn’t see it because of Amerian Eagle. Lorelai’s house is the back of Sookie’s house, and we didn’t get to go up to Sookie’s house or anything like that, just look at it from up the street.

So sad, I can’t stand it. I had already planned a trip for Sept. Now I have to totally re do my vacation. That is so unfair. I guess it is my own fault for booking a trip so far in advance. I couldn’t stand the pain of seeing my town tore down. I guess I will just have to recover in Hawaii instead. Even that won’t make up for the loss of my show.

Hi em,
Not sure why they don’t go through. Maybe you could upload them to a free album service and post the link here? Then I can make it into a new post.
Thanks!

Sure Arieanna. I thought of doing that before but first I tried to email them. The files were probably too big or something. Whatever, I uploaded them onto Photobucket. Here’s the link. The only picture that needs an explanation is the one of the Gas Station, which is where Hep Alien stopped for gas on their way home from their tour in the beginning of the sixth season. Everything else is self explanatory.
