CW snubbed by Hollywood
The CW has been very obviously snubbed by Hollywood establishments such as the Emmy Awards.
The entire CW network only received one Emmy nomination this year, much less even than some smaller networks. But this does not seem to bother Dawn Ostroff:
the entire CW network only received one Emmy nomination but it does not bother Ostroff that the CW has been ignored by the Hollywood establishments. “The reality is that for our 18-34-year-old audience, I don’t know if it would really translate for to us more viewers. That being said, you know, we would love to have more nominations. I think it’s a shame that Lauren Graham was never nominated, and that “Everybody Hates Chris” has never been nominated,” said Ostroff.
The 18-34-year-old demographic is also considered the least loyal group but Ostroff feels different. “It’s that their interests change very quickly and you have to be able to stay with them,” Ostroff.
I would say the demographic is very loyal to a show - we’ve never stopped loving Gilmore Girls, despite its struggles in season 7. But I am not so sure how loyal we are network-wise. The comments left on GilmoreGirlsNews seem to indicate that network loyalty is not very important to tv viewers - that the show is the key ingredient in loyalty.
I am glad that Dawn Ostroff acknowledges that Lauren Graham was overlooked at the Emmy’s, for it truly is a terrible oversight, but it’s hard to say whether or not the network could be playing a part in this. Perhaps, as a new network, it has move to prove to the Emmy voters. The article does seem to indicate that the lack of nominations was incongruous with the shows. What do you think?

What do they think? They just canceled the best show we ever had after just 7 seasons. I would be loyal to the network if it would be the 14th season but im truly disappointed that it was so soon! Many seasons too soon! That was the only show where I always thought “Oh yeah this show will reach at least 12 seasons!” And the best is that Gilmore Girls is so damn successful international *Im from Germany* and still has so many stories in it they could show at least in 6 more seasons!!!!! Its damn unfair!

This is likely the reason why GG went unnoticed. It needed to be part of a more visible network. The shows on the CW/WB are somewhat silly. With GG, it was the art of story telling that came through and that is a dying art. All the actors had to do was deliver quality performances. Notice each one ever interviewed has said that he or she loves the writing. Had the Palladinos launched the show on another network, it likely would have garnered more viewers and awards. It will be curious to see how long the CW lasts. I will likely stop watching the channel once the repeats of GG end, much the way I have stopped reading TV Guide since the show ended. The show will remain a treasure to any who take the time to watch it. And while there are many more stories left to tell in Stars Hollow, to expect the actors and writing teams to continue on and on is unrealistic. Hollywood repeatedly overlooks talent in favor of ratings and money, so we shouldn’t be surprised that there is no recognition for the show. That recognition will likely appear in someone’s Lifetime Achievement Award for writing or acting as part of a larger body of work.

I think a network loyalty thing does play a part in what most people watch. I mean I watch almost all NBC and CBS shows while I don’t really watch anything on ABC, FOX, or CW….only thing I watch on cw since GG is gone is reruns of Reba and GG lol. But a network normally has a trend of similar shows…I like a couple things to come out of the cw….but most of their stuff is pure crap in the tv world….and then you have the small amount of good and great. But hey…most of the stuff that comes out of ABC and FOX nowadays is like that too lol

Well, it’s not surprising considering the horrible way the CW is treating its shows. In the past with the WB there were plenty of noms. Lauren definately deserves an Emmy but it was sad this season. If the WB was a better network; GG would’ve been better and then Lauren could’ve at least gotten the nomination. Here is Dawn yet again showing us she doesn’t care about anything but her own opinions.

I agree with Tiniooo and emma.
It could looks like this
8th season
Luke and Lorelai dating
Rory working
9th season
Luke and Lorelai move into the huge house
Rory meets Marty
10th season
Luke and Lorelai wedding
Rory and Marty dating
11th season
Rory and Marty wedding
Luke and Lorelai babys
12th season
Rory and Marty baby
Lorelai and Luke parents
13th season
happy end Stars Hollow all together
with Lorelai,Luke and their babys and
Rory and Marty and their babys
I always think Marty is the right guy for Rory. I don´t know why, but I really hate Logan! Never bring them together again.
I agree that a two h movie or the 8/13/22 episode 8th season is not enough. We need more seasons to enjoy the time with them and there are many realistic stories and drama (Anna, Logan, April, Jess, Emily, Richard… a lot drama)

…They could’ve atleast given us and final episode that takes us through the future. You know like the Mad About You finale or the Will & Grace finale….but Mad About You did it the best…it took you through the whole lives till they were like 60 and they made it good..

I agree with what you say about the importance of loyalty to a show as opposed to loyalty to a network. Probably a lot of network loyalty is really just show loyalty, but then again the news programs and news anchors of the major networks do help create loyalty to their brand.
I would like to quibble with this statement: “I would say the demographic is very loyal to a show - we’ve never stopped loving Gilmore Girls, despite its struggles in season 7.”
Gilmore Girls really started to slip in season five and season six was just bad. Truly terrible and awful. Season seven struggled because the show was in such a bad place when Rosenthal took over; it took more than a half a season to dig it out again.
And through it all Gilmore fans remained loyal; that’s really something.

Had the CW kept AS & DP we would probably still be watching new episodes of GG’s this fall. That being said, the only reason I watch the CW now is reruns of GG, Reba, According to Jim, King of Queens.
For the most part, it would appear that the Emmy nominations go to the programs making the most $. Had GG been on HBO or ABC/NBC/CBS there is no doubt in my mind that LG would have been nominated. However, she is young and still has plenty of time to win an emmy.

They have to understand that nobody is loyal to a networking. That doesn’t exist.
People are loyal to the shows.
We all were watching GG ( or whatever the show) not because it was on at the CW networking, but because of the show’s context.
….And i agree with Pamela about the Lauren part. She’s very young and still has plenty of time to win an Emmy. I always say….one day she will win a Golden Globe, and maybe an Oscar.
I think why Lauren never won an Emmy it was because it was unfair, really, and because of their “new rules” and stuff.
I mean, come on, Julia Louis Dreyfus won an Emmy for “The new Adventures of Old Christine” but Lauren didn’t?! What?!….That’s just ridiculous!
Lauren is the best actress ever, period.
One day….her day will arrive….one day…

Manu, I agree about Julia Louis Dreyfus! I am still scratching my head over her win and continued nominations.

You guys….. The rest of the CW shows are watered-down soap opera dramas not to be taken seriously.
Pamela

Cookie, I agree with that concept, but the big network shows aren’t much different and therein lies the reason for me to scratch my head when someone like JLD wins in her first season. I can see no good reason why Graham, Bishop and Amy Sherman Palladino shouldn’t have one an emmy for GG - the writing was outstanding and given Mmes. Graham & Bishop performances where were their emmys??????
And, while on the subject, there are so many actors that are given these awards whose performances they could have called in.

I do think Lauren should’ve won….but JLD did deserve hers…I mean have you seen that show?…I’ve seen all the episode and it cracks me up everytime…she definately deserved it. But I think if that show was on the CW she wouldn’t have been nominated.

Marissa: Just a difference of opinion, I guess. And, yes, I have seen JLD’s shows and they are “okay”. I would rather watch “Two & A Half Men”….. Now that’s a funny, funny show.
