Christiane Amanpour on her GG appearance
Christiane Amanpour, Rory Gilmore’s idol who made an appearance in the Season Finale of Season 7, reflects on the experience in a recent interview.
The interview brings out just how much of a role model Rory was for many young people around the world. A role model for her goals and her achievements, but also for whom she looked up to. Of course, it was an honor to Christiane to be that idol, but Rory showed many girls that strong, powerful women had more to offer than many celebrities on tv. And Rory herself was strong and powerful and goal-minded as a result.
It’s a very powerful message. It’s also a poignant one, knowing that Gilmore Girls had so much to offer above and beyond simply entertainment. You just don’t see that on tv anymore. Interview after the jump.
The no-nonsense Amanpour has become synonymous with battle-line reporting… Amanpour joined CNN in 1983…
She has become an icon to millions of women who saw her as a prominent voice in a field filled with men. Her pop culture status was sealed when she became Rory Gilmore’s role model on the popular series "The Gilmore Girls."
"I liked the fact that young Rory was into literature and serious journalism rather than Britney Spears and Paris Hilton," says Amanpour. "And of course I enjoyed the fact that I was her hero. CNN sent me the DVDs of the show, because I could never watch it, and I would jump every time my name would come up."
On a serious note, Amanpour says, it was more than just the vanity factor that made her happy about being mentioned on the show.
"I like that a Hollywood (series) concentrated on something important, especially to young people," Amanpour says. "The message was that this smart young woman had a serious goal and was interested in substance, when today’s culture tells you that the absolute opposite is true."…

You guys are funny. haha. Alexis looks sooo beautiful in this pic. I think the 7th season… even though the show was off…. Alexis looked incredible. I envy this girl.

That’s a word. She totally get the point. GG was more than a show… both, Rory and Lorelai were friends, family and idols in one. We will never get a show like this again. I would never read that much books (of course the same like Rory),if we never had GG. Oh and on the picture Alexis looks totally cute. Just a little thin. Or was she always that thin??? Miss GG so much
