Lauren Graham Scoop From Michael Ausiello
Once again, Rob is the best! He sent me another tip about Lauren Graham’s new contract with NBC. (Thanks, Rob! You rock!)
The latest Ask Ausiello from TV Guide has this spoiler about Lauren:
Question: Any luck with the Lauren Graham interview? - Gabriella
Ausiello: Bad news: My BFF declined my interview request. I also tried to get a hold of NBC’s Ben Silverman, the architect behind LG’s mega-deal, but he too was unavailable to speak to me. The same goes for Graham’s manager, John Carrabino. Maybe the wall of silence is their way of keeping expectations in check. After all, as numerous sources tell me, this is nothing more than a standard 12-month holding deal, and one which may or may not result in a TV show. Whispers one insider, “NBC is basically paying her a crapload of money to spend a year sitting around reading bad scripts.” Much like the cast of October Road.
According to Rob: “It’s like a football player getting a signing bonus from the NFL and yet still not being assigned to play for a team or even help build an expansion team from scratch.” (great analogy.)
All I can say is, where do I get a contract like that? ;-)
I’m sure that NBC wants to keep their options open to use Lauren in the best project that may come along during the next year. (And it keeps her from going to another network, I’ll bet…) Keep checking back here, we’ll update you as news is released. I have a strong feeling this subject is not closed.

Lauren is just an awesome person. If anything bad ever happened to her, I would definately make a video for her like the one Chris crocker made for Britney.

I hope Lauren demands that her new project for TV is whimsical and funny. It’s why we love her and it’s her real personality.
I’ve had enough of lawyers, doctors and reality tv. I would love LG to find a funny, real kind of show that makes us laugh out loud……….not cry or cringe from sadness, drama or reality crap type of shows that have been inflicted on us.

I agree w/Wonder Y about her hair - best I’ve seen it.
LG has one of the best agents in the business so she will do well in television. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the star power for movies, but who cares. I love her comedic timing and snappy dialogue by excellent writers. Hope they come up with a great team like they had on GGs.

“NBC is basically paying her a crapload of money to spend a year sitting around reading bad scripts.” …haha…that’s kinda funny, but based on my opinion and what i know about LG it’s not gonna be about money and how much money they pay she’s gonna go with what she thinks is best and as a true LG fan, wherever she leads i will follow…as long as she does something so i can see her again…big screen, small screen or anything else…

Nobody who’s an LG fan hopes that they don’t find a show for her IMO. Heck, that other actors from Gg already have new shows and she’s looking for one really doesn’t mean anything regarding reviving Gg for a real conclusion (which is why http://www.savethelorelais.org exists, BID.), so IMO, there’s no real reason for any fan to not want LG to succeed. Any Gg revival toward a real conclusion (whether movie, or as I would like to push for, a miniseries) would have to be done during summer hiatuses from the actors’ new gigs anyway. So with respect to Gg’s extended hiatus and future, none of us really have anything to gain from rooting against any Gg actor’s current projects.
When the nature of a development deal is explained as easily as Ausiello explains it in his column, then Gg and LG fans are IMO meant to get that these new deals are really a non-issue with regards to a Gg revival. Anybody who felt that they got the wind kicked out of their sails by the announcement of LG’s deal with NBC have every reason to keep sailing.
The problem is exactly what I’ve said all along since the deal was announced — it doesn’t guarantee her a series. It just guarantees her the *chance* to *develop* a series. Doesn’t mean that whatever pilot she and her management company come up with will ultimately get picked up if/when they choose to do one — that’s why I used the football analogy. (Yep, I’m that Rob.)
To extend the analogy — they might develop a business plan for an expansion team, but that doesn’t mean that the NFL is going to go for it. The NFL can always nix the idea.
To drop the analogy: the failure rate of pilot ideas is high, the failure rate of pilots that get made is just as high and the failure rate of pilots that get greenlit to series is high. 1 in 40 or so odds at each level, given the similar rate of failure of individual actors auditioning for parts at any given time. Even when we consider that she won’t have to audition for a show that is, duh, built around her and the likelihood that a script she develops is likely to get fast-tracked to pilot season by NBC just to justify the deal, the chances of her getting a new series out of it (ie: one that works, hitting the ground running as Gg did) is very, very slim. 1 in 40 chance that the pilot is greenlit to series, 1 in 40 chance that the show lasts even one full season. That’s a 1 in 1600 or so chance that the pilot will even be a success — and that’s only if it’s fast-tracked.
IMO, we’re more likely to see her signed to an existing series for an arc and/or to make guest shots on various NBC Uni-owned shows. The Office, 30 Rock, House, the L&Os, Bionic Woman, etc. and I’m sure most of us would like to see her on The Office if that becomes the case. If we see her start making guest appearances on NBC-Uni shows, then we’ll know that she’s getting that veritable load of bad scripts that Ausiello notes in the Q&A that’s the subject of this GGN item.
Again, I’m not rooting against her in pointing this out. Me want more Lauren on TV! Even if she gets the timeslot against Grey’s Anatomy and CSI, I’d watch LG first. I’m just pointing out that the slim chances that it’ll work out into a new series is just the nature of the biz.
And as an LG fan whose background is live theater, I find the slim odds of the biz to be quite annoying with respect to getting more LG on my TV!

rob i dunno what ur sayiing but now that people are recognizing lauren’s a mazing talent it’s partly up to us if she has a show the series would only succeed if we are the ones on the other side of the t.v. she WILL be competing with other shows but heroes and csi will be put aide bcuz i know i will be there watching and supporting her. she deserves bcuz she is the best.
