Scott Patterson Interview on Gilmore Girls

by Arieanna on October 23rd, 2007

Scott Patterson recently gave an interview with a source not named (sounds like a radio station) - you can download the interview here.

Scott was asked a series of questions by fans, and talked a great deal about Gilmore Girls. About his disappointment with Amy Sherman-Palladino leaving. His disappointment in the finale. And his hope for a Gilmore Girls Movie. By the paragraph below, it sounds like a lot of people are talking about a Gilmore Girls movie.

SP: "Well, I’ve been contacted by a number of sources. I can’t reveal too many and I don’t want to start any rumors, but they asked me if I would be interested in doing a reunion movie and I said you know, look, Amy Sherman Palladino’s writing it, I’d do the phone book for her, so."

Q: "When the change of writers came on the show, how did you feel about that really?"

SP: "Well, look, Amy left and it wasn’t under the best of circumstances. There was a battle between her and the studio and also her husband, ’cause they were the writing team. It was, really sad to see them go. I thought that was, that was writing the show’s epitaph right there. I figured they’re gone, Amy is the voice of the show, you just, and it’s such a unique voice that you’re not going to be able to replace it because, (they) had some very talented writers come in and they just, you know, it’s very difficult to be that specific with with the voice of each character so it kind of sealed its fate."

Q: "I’m going to interpret what you just said – you weren’t very happy about it."

SP: "Well, she, Amy was the one who gave us our break in Hollywood and she created that show, she was the energy behind that show, she’s the brains behind that show. You just can’t replace that. It’s, it’s irreplaceable. So I think (sighs) boy, if they had to do it all over again, I think they might have tried to work out a better deal with her. "

Q: "Do you feel the show implied that you and Lorelai did end up together in the finale? How do you feel about that?"

SP: "I think they tried I don’t think (laughing) they did very well. (Still laughing) They can imply all they want, but you know, the fans want what the fans want. They waited around for all those years and they just, they got this little pop in the end where you know they sort of kissed each other and …."

Scott Patterson rocks. He totally knows that the end of Gilmore Girls was nothing like the show that we grew to know and love, and he knows fans wanted more than just a kiss between Luke and Lorelai.

I love Scott! I can’t believe that he said he did not like to kiss Lauren Graham! They male a perfect couple better than his girlfriend now

THANK YOU SCOTT! YOU’RE SO RIGHT! the fans were NOT happy at all with the one little kiss!!! seriously, after like, what is it, 22 episodes of waiting and waiting and waiting for the perfect luke/lorelai conversation, we got what was barely a conversation and ONE KISS.
god, i hated the way this show ended. and i was like, their biggest fan.
thank you scott. officially my favorite person.

Where is the rest of the interview? I clicked on the download link but it says it has expired or is invalid. It seems very odd that it would end like that. ? But I agree with Scott, who seems to be much more in tune with what fans want than Lauren Graham. He clearly sees the disappointment that was so painfully obvious at the end of the show.
