Ode to Gilmore Girls Townies: TJ
I am going to start a series of posts on all the Stars Hollow townies - the characters who make up the fabric of Gilmore Girls. As mentioned in the recent trivia post, I’ll have a start with TJ (Michael DeLuise).
TJ is a tricky one to dig up things on. But, I’ll do my best. Feel free to contribute more to the comments on this post!
TJ Facts & Quotes:
- TJ’s real name is Gary
- TJ is in 13 episodes of Gilmore Girls
- We first meet TJ in Season 4 "Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels"
- Luke says of his first impression of TJ: "If I could pick anyone for my sister to be with, that guy would definitely be his cab driver!"
- Liz and TJ buy a house in Stars Hollow in Season 5 "The Party’s Over"
- TJ in "That’s What You Get, Folks, For Makin’ Whoopee":
"I can picture what you’re picturing, like with all the scary religious pictures. It wouldn’t have to be a bloody crucifixion, it can just be an image of a happy animal; I don’t know a smiling penguin or perhaps a peaceful-looking giraffe."

- TJ to Liz on their wedding day:
"Well, I wrote something down, but for all the good points about tights, and there are a lot, they don’t have pockets. So I gotta go off the cuff. I love you." - TJ becomes a stay-at-home dad after Doula is born
- TJ points out "Kirk’s" to Luke - the imitation diner selling coffee in the park
- Luke tells TJ about his breakup with Lorelai before he tells Liz
- TJ likes to drink beer outside or at skating rinks. He invites Luke to see the Rockettes.
- When Liz finds out she’s pregnant, she kicks TJ out
- TJ compares the Luke & Lorelai break-up to "string theory"
- TJ helps Luke out because Liz is going crazy with him around
- TJ wants to turn Rory’s room into a Pork Smoking Room
I couldn’t find many existing clips with TJ in them - I am sure he’s up in many clips, but it’s hard to find them!

TJ was on of the best characters. he was SO funny.
in season 4 episode 13 i think there was something like.
luke- how do you like star’s hollow?
tj- its good. it remiend me of new york.
luke- how?
jess- neither are in space.
haha. i laugh at that everytime even though i’ve seen it like 20 times.

I absolutely LOVE TJ! my favorite when he builds shelves for Luke and says “You plus your fat cousins could sit on them and they wouldn’t break, that’s how strong they are!” aggh!! i love it!

omg! do u guys remember when Luke got his devoice on June 3rd and June 3rd was also the day of the almost Luke and lorelai’s wedding
