Photos, Recap & Discussion

Discussion Questions:
- Rory doesn’t want to face her pain - is that a lack of courage? Or simply not her rational way to deal with things?
- Why does Lorelai think wallowing is necessary part of the process?
- Luke is the one to defend Rory the most passionately. Why do you think he did this? Was it more father than friend?
- How did Rory’s breakup make Lorelai go back to Max?
- Why did Max invite Lorelai in? Did her speech show the courage she lacked before?
- Does Rory sympathize with Tristan after seeing Summer dump him?
- Do you think Tristan and Rory have a chance to be together?
- Why did Tristan and Rory kiss? Did they do it because they like each other, or are mutually in pain?
- Is Tristan a better guy now that he has experienced love and humility?
- Why does kissing Tristan make Rory cry?
Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
We pick up the moment we left off. Rory doesn’t want to tell Lorelai the specifics, just that Dean broke up with her. Rory is boxing up everything Dean gave her, saw her in or touched. She’s furious and irrational and wants that box far away from her. But Lorelai knows love and hides it in the closet.
Rory waks up Lorelai at 6am on Saturday. Rory needs to preoccupy herself. During the night she had rearranged all the furniture. Lorelai is concerned, but Rory doesn’t want to talk or deal with it yet. She can’t deal with it yet. But she refuses to be the girl who falls apart without a guy - she won’t wallow. Lorelai is practically insisting she do it, but loses that battle. Rory doesn’t want to talk by anywhere Dean is, but it cuts them off from Luke’s, where the coffee is. They take the alleys and back ways.
There is a big 6am crowd at Luke’s - and they don’t know anyone there. Rachel serves them coffee, says she’ll be hanging around a while and sounds like she and Luke are back on. Rory is concerned the town knows, which they do. Lorelai breaks it to Luke, who is furious. Would love to pummel Dean. Very protective of Rory. So he decides to make her an even more special breakfast than Lorelai suggested.
Luke spots Dean coming to the diner and storms out. Tells Dean he’s not welcome there. Lorelai sees Luke fighting with Dean - shoving, etc - and runs out to break it apart. Dean won’t look at Rory, and it takes Lorelai to keep Luke from charging on Dean again.
Hearing Lorelai tell Babette she’ll be fine, Rory is overcome. She starts to cry, but then refuses to give in. She notices the invite for Madeline’s party and decides to go. Lorelai says to take Lane. The girls get ready for their party - Rory is stopped by the corn starch, which Lorelai stashes away. She sees her own love box for Max things and takes it down.
Sookie is beside herself - Jackson is in her kitchen. Cooking. Lorelai came to borrow her car. To go see Max.
"Rory and Dean broke up. And she won’t wallow. And I told her she should wallow, you know, because that’s supposed to help you get through the pain. And then you can accept it, and you can get over somebody, and you can move on with your life. And then she asked me how long it was before I got over you. And I didn’t know what to say, you know, because I can’t lie to her and I realized that if I gave her any time frame at all I would be lying. Cause I’m not over you. And I don’t know how long it will be before I am."
She keeps babbling while Max listens.
"The point is: I’m an idiot. And a hypocrite. And I really miss you."
Max invites her in.
The party is huge. Lane and Rory see Madeline and Louise before the latter go to the pool house to make out. Paris joins them seeking beverages. Rory does tell Paris about Dean, though she did not tell the others. They see Tristan fighting with his girlfriend, Summer, who was making out with another guy. She’s a very rude girl. Rory looks sympathetic.
A Korean boy - Henry - notices Lane and asks her to dance - she says no, given her fun history with Korean boys. But agrees to one dance.
Max and Lorelai are making out madly, but decide to cool it and talk first. Lorelai admits to not dealing with her Max feelings - kinda like Rory is now. He still has no solution to the mother-teacher thing, but I don’t think he cares anymore.
Lane is enjoying herself with Henry and Paris leaves the party. Rory is alone. She goes to read, but behind her come Tristan and Summer fighting. He wants to go, she doesn’t. They break up. She doesn’t seem to have any feelings for her, while he does appear to have some for her.
Lane has a problem - Henry is a good student, going to be a doctor, Korean, religious - everything her mother wants. She wants to not like him, but she does.
Lorelai and Max slept together. She thinks she should go - for good. Still no solution. Max argues that they won’t solve it by staying away from each other - that they should talk about it regularly.
Rory walks in on Tristan, who has escaped the party to a quiet area. She asks if he’s ok and tries to talk to him. He thinks Rory is pleased to see him humiliated. Rory tells him about her own breakup. Tristan says Dean is missing out. And apologizes for treating her badly before. He compliments Rory by calling her odd. Then he kisses her - she seems to reciprocate but then starts crying and runs out.
Lorelai comes home to find Rory wallowing. PJs, ice cream and crying. She gives Rory a place to lay down and cry on her lap.

i loved the fight. i called my mom in to see the fight– but she didn’t realize how great it was! *rolleyes*
i think rory cried when she kissed tristen because she realized she does love dean (even though she can’t/won’t admit it) and she is sad that she lost someone special.

I, too, really like the Luke and Dean fight in front of the diner. Funny stuff…
Yes, I think Rory processes events different from Lorelai. She has a delayed, supressed feeling to happenings in her life. And, she loves her lists, and that helps her not confront her feelings.
I think, Lorelai goes back to Max because she is lonely. Not necessarily that she loves him….

I always kind of liked Tristan and Rory. I was really upset that they didn’t have anything going on. Sorry, I just was never a huge fan of Dean. I think when they kissed Tristan really did care about Rory, but Rory just did it because she was sad.
