Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Luke is attempting to run the diner amidst the renovations to the apartment above. Drywall falls into food. Jess offers Rory an umbrella while she eats. A good thing too.
Emily calls to offer Lorelai a gift certificate for a spa. Lorelai is so excited that Emily decides to go with her. Lorelai tries to book their spa activities to avoid her mother.
Lorelai encourages Rory to do something bad while she’s gone - but Rory has only simple plans to study and eat take-out. Emily comes in a limo to pick up Lorelai.
Paris gets back a chemistry test and her face falls - she immediately asks if Madeline and Louise want to study (it’s Friday). She got an A-. She tells Rory things are weird at her house and she can’t focus. Rory says she can’t this weekend, but perhaps next week before the final.
Lorelai learns there is no coffee at the spa. And that Emily had "straightened out" the "mistake" in their appointments and booked them together for everything.
Dean and Rory are making out when he suggests coming over that night, since Lorelai is out. Rory says she was planning on pulling a hermit. To do her laundry the way she wants, eat Indian food, and go to bed early. He pouts.
Emily is already irking Lorelai. Nagging about the housecoat. Sneaking into her treatment room while Lorelai is relaxing. Talking talking talking. Lorelai bursts during their ‘couples massage’. Emily says Lorelai is wasting her relaxing time being a petulant 4 year old.
Rory is in her PJs folding her mountains of laundry. Paris drops by freaking out about her notes. Gets angry with Rory for wanting to be alone (doing so far too much herself). Rory gives her 1 hour.
Lorelai and Emily are actually complimenting each other. Emily gets a kick out of trying Lorelai’s ‘vicious trollop’ lipstick. The dinner menu of tofu doesn’t please the ladies so Lorelai encourages them to ditch the spa for a steak.
Paris is done with her hour when Jess stops by with a care package from Luke’s (saying it was from Luke). Says he needed ‘quiet’, hence being delivery boy. Asks if Rory thought he was coming to see her. He doesn’t leave - didn’t get his tip - and asks for fries for his tip. She says fine. He takes that as an invitation to stay and eat. Though Paris was just about to go, Rory invites her to stay for dinner and more study. Jess says that’s interesting - asks if she thinks they need a chaperone? Very convenient.
Emily and Lorelai end up at the bar in a very busy restaurant, both very cheery. Emily is being hit on. She seems pleased.
Rory, Paris and Jess are having a great discussion on books. Dean calls to say he’s coming over to say hi. Rory tries to get him to stay away. Says she’s a mess. That Paris is there. He won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Rory tries to usher Jess out the door. Jess understands what’s going on. He agrees because she asks - though he does check to see if she ‘really’ wants him to go. Mocks Dean on his way to the door.
Of course, Dean is right there. Rory looks guilty. Mumbles about the care package. Jess mocks the ice cream Dean brought over. Dean comes to ‘tower over’ Jess. Try to intimidate him. Dean comes in and sees that Jess was there eating. Rory can’t explain it to the point that Dean doesn’t think he was lied to. Paris says it was her fault - says she had Rory invite Jess over because she has a crush on him. Dean sees he doesn’t have much choice but to "believe" it. Leaves. Rory thanks Paris. And invites her to spend the night. Small steps of friendship.
Emily’s suitor comes calling. Emily gets flustered when he asks to dance. But they cut a nice figure on the dance floor! He pulls her back for an intimate close dance which makes Emily look very frightened. She pulls away and leaves the restaurant. She feels she ‘practically cheated’ on Richard by dancing with another man. Now Emily blames everything on Lorelai. Lorelai tells Emily she has no right to complain about their relationship if she won’t let her guard down and just be normal - that they were having fun.
Emily decides they should leave the trip early. Thinks it was a silly idea, they can’t get through dinner without a fight. Emily wants to know why they can’t have what Lorelai and Rory have. Lorelai says she grew up in a different environment and that she was young when she had Rory. Lorelai says she and Rory are best friends first - mother and daughter second. And that she and Emily are mother and daughter always. Emily says she was not taught to be friends, but a role model. Lorelai says they should start with something more simple. Like stealing their robes - something they do together, symbolic of their trip. Emily agrees to be the vicious trollop once again.
Rory goes to thank Luke for the care package, which he knows nothing about. Jess, right behind him, distracts Luke. Rory says it’s interesting, to Jess, that he lied about why he came over. He wanted to come over, she says. She makes him squirm.
Dean is outside. Lorelai tells him that Rory is so sorry about the ‘freaky unfortunate’ thing that happened the previous night.
"Rory wouldn’t lie, right?"
"No, Rory wouldn’t lie"
Lorelai says, as they both watch Rory and Jess chatting at the till.

First of all, yes I find Dean VERY clingy. And him pouting when Rory would rather has a night alone is a classic example of how clingy he is.

I agree with u michelle. I also think that rory knows that she likes jess–and it scares her. She wants to be faithful to dean so she tries to tell herself that jess means nothing to her.

I’m agree with mandaa.Dean is really clingy with Rory.I think Rory probly like Jess than Dean, but she afraid tell Jess that she like him and dont want Dean will find out and not hurt him again.I love Lauren’s role evil, when she did bad thing like and try tell Emily about theif the robe from spa.

Kind of sad watching the Dean relationship flounder and fail, and Rory moving on to Jess although the angel on her shoulder is telling her to stay loyal to Dean. I wonder if Jared P. was already on his way to his new TV show and this was ASP’s way of writing him out. Rory better suited for Jess anyways. More things in common. Tristan days were hard to take after Jess.

Here’s the rub: Emily & Lorelei are both alike - they want it their way. Unfortunately, Emily’s education at being a mother was far different than her daughters’. Can’t you see how badly Emily wants this closeness w/Lorelei - it permeates her very existence - and, they were on their way until Emily felt guilty for enjoying the slow dance. Kinda of pathetically funny.
