Gilmore Girls as Most Heartwarming TV Show

by Arieanna on January 14th, 2008

TVGuide has polled the readers for the all-time best of Feel-good television. From that, there were 14 finalists including Gilmore Girls. And a poll to determine "the most heartwarming TV show of all time." And, of course, Gilmore Girls came out on top with 18% of the votes (Little House at second with 14%)!

  1. The Addams Family
  2. The Andy Griffith Show
  3. The Cosby Show
  4. Eight is Enough
  5. Family
  6. Family Ties
  7. Friday Night Lights
  8. Gilmore Girls
  9. Life Goes On
  10. My So-Called Life
  11. My Three Sons
  12. Little House on the Prairie
  13. 7th Heaven
  14. The Waltons

Vote for Gilmore Girls here. The poll is still ongoing - only a major shift in the votes will change the results.

I think the choices for the poll are like comparing a bunch of apples to a bunch of oranges. You have The Andy Griffith Show, My Three Sons, and The Addams Family as the oldest shows on the list being filmed in the early 1960s. Of course they are heartwarming, that is what all TV was back then. (Personally, I would like to come to the conclusion how the readers picked The Addams Family and left out other shows like Leave it to Beaver.) Then the list contains shows from the seventies and eighties like Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, and the Cosby show which aren’t as put together as the 60s shows, but for the most part are heartwarming. And now we are up to the more modern shows like Gilmore Girls. While it might be heartwarming and probably one of the most in recent televison, how can we compare that with something from the early 1960s when values, especially family values, were held so close? Televsion was watched together as a family activity, not a filler of time. When one thinks about it, despite the fact of how much I love Gilmore Girls, I do not think that it is an accurate choice based on the shows we are to choose from. The poll is just a reflection of the age group that most often visits the website.

Well, y’know, at least the fans of Veronica Mars and One Tree Hill can’t mistakenly whine that we stole their vote this time. (Especially since we didn’t.)

Personally, apart from GG, of course, I would have chosen “Growing Pains” among other ones, then probably Alf, that funny dog that crashed into the Tanner’s garage.
As for Growing Pains, they also had seven seasons… And you know… Two films followed. Seven is also the magic ending of GG. So we can expect… If …
Alexis Bledel is becoming really … Ouh ! And she’s full of talent… So, she could become inaccessible for that kind of movie.
