- Luke is usually ok being surly to customers - why not the J Crew bunch?
- What do you think of Dwight?
- Why is Emily angry that Lorelai doesn’t like Payton?
- Is Lorelai judgmental?
- Should Lorelai date Payton again for the sake of Emily’s social standing? Or would breaking it off after two dates make any difference?
- Why does Jess turn the sprinkler back on?
- Was Emily being too selfish in asking Lorelai to go on another date with Payton? Or just enjoying it because she can?
Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Luke is tense because the diner was taken over by the "J Crew catalogue" - parents with their babies who stay all morning on the weekends and never order anything. He wants to kick them out but the breastfeeding keeps him away. He wants Lorelai to go over - she’s not scared of the ’same parts.’ They all get a laugh at Jess’ reaction when he comes down and sees the breastfeeding.
Emily invites Laurelai to an antique auction to get some stuff for the Inn. Michel is keen on auctions. Begs to go. Lorelai makes a deal for him to do a lot of things he hates doing.
Lorelai feels guilty about reaming out the pizza guy for charging extra for the garlic on the pizza when she finds he gave them free cheesy bread.
Lorelai has a new neighbor, Dwight. Lorelai offers to help out, as a neighborly gesture. He takes her up on that right away - to water his lawn while he’s out of town. He talks a lot, and a little too personally.
Emily is nicknamed the "Cobra" for her relentless way with folk. Michel is in his element. Lorelai meets a cute guy at the auction bar. Later, Lorelai calls to find out who Mr. 17 was. Rory can’t help but laugh at her attempt to wrangle the info from them. Saying he was her high school friend "Shamoo".
Rory taunts Lorelai to ask Emily about number 17. Lorelai mentions how many ‘young people’ there were, like number 17. Emily goes to look it up - Payton Sanders. Lorelai breaks down and asks for his number. Emily takes great pleasure in that.
Dwight has left a note for Lorelai asking her to water his plants inside. Has a tiki room. Payton calls back Lorelai to set up a date. To go see David Bowie in a week, and dinner the next day.
Lorelai is nervous about her date. But happy to flirt with Mr. sexy guy. Unfortunately, he was also Mr. boring guy. Pretentious, chatty and boring. Tells Rory all about it.
Lorelai goes to swap lamps with Emily - an auction mixup. Emily wants to know all about the date. She’s all excited about it. Lorelai tells her it was a dud, but Emily tells her just to try harder on the next date. Gets angry hearing that Lorelai wants to break her "commitment" and not giving people second changes. Calls her judgmental.
Lorelai wants Rory to do cardio salsa with her. Dwight calls Lorelai to get her to change her lawn watering schedule to accommodate the weather.
Richard calls to say he’s playing golf with Payton’s father - to assess the "damage done". Says Payton’s mother is an important woman in their social circle, and she could take what Lorelai "did" the wrong way. Lorelai is breaking the strict social rules. Says Emily has the "prime tea spot" and this situation could demote her. Whether he or Lorelai think it’s rational or not doesn’t matter - if his wife wants that first cup, she will have it. Leaves Lorelai no choice.
Rory is watering the violets when Dwight gets a message from his wife - he claimed she was abusive, and that seems likely. She ‘tracked him down’ to get her board games back. Rory can’t get the sprinkler to turn off. Soaking wet, she pages Dean. He doesn’t reply.
Rory runs into town and knocks into Jess. Jess demands to know what’s up - and decides to be the one to help her. Both wet, Jess asks how she’s doing. It’s a nice moment - but then Rory’s pager goes off. Dean is on his way. Jess turns the sprinkler back on.
Emily gives Lorelai the cold shoulder. Lorelai apologizes to her for getting Emily mixed up in all of this and not thinking of what would happen if things with Payton didn’t work out. Gives an example to show Emily just how bad the date was. But says she will go to the concert if Emily asks. Which she does.

I think its obvious that Luke doesn’t like breastfeeding if he’s being surly to them. lol. I think that Dwight is pretty weird and annoying! his house is so crazy!! i’m not saying anything about Payton (though i was curious as to how u spell his name) because he is boring. I think Jess turned the sprinklers back on so Dean doesn’t find out that it was Jess who fixed them. I don’t think Emily was selfish, but concerned about losing her place. this might be selfish. hmmmm… im not sure about that one.

I don’t see why Lorelai didn’t just go on the next date. It was a concert she really wanted to see, and it was only one more date, right?! I liked the end. Perfect Emily moment.

8 o’clock - at the oasis. I searched hi and lo for that clock the 1st time I caught this episode. Thought it might just be for real and on sale at EBay. After all, there are hamburger phones …. why not this clock?
Loved the plastic fish in the aquarium, too.
One more date? … not even going to go there.

I think this episode has one of the best teasers in GG! (my #1 favorite being from “PS, I Lo…” with the 1,2,3… he’s yours). I love this teaser because it’s so funny because Luke is not afraid to speak his mind to Lorelai and Rory but not to the women with their babies. I mean what he says to Lorelai is enough to make you want to take Luke to a Sex Ed or Home Ec. class. Lorelai’s banters following Luke’s comments are hysterical and even Rory’s laughing along with it. Then of course Jess comes by and reacts to the whole situation in his own way… retreat! Other than the teaser I don’t really care for this episode too much. I do like Jess in this episode because he was so nice to Rory when he could’ve easily turned around and be a jerk. But he was very understand and took her feelings into consideration by turning the water back on for her and Dean.

This epi was a bit weird I thought, I loved the scene with Luke and the J Crew breastfeeding people, but for the rest Dwight got on my nerves and the rest of the cast was being extra weird/zany this episode, which made it all a bit to extreme.
