Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Rory and Lorelai are strapped for what to do on Friday night - they are not going to the Gilmore dinner. Rory decides to call and say hi. They are having a last-minute ’small’ party with 60 people. There is singing and dancing. Lorelai says that her parents win for bouncing back so quickly. They try to think of something just as big for next week.
Lorelai is playing with ‘digital Dan,’ her camera. The Booster Club has sent Lorelai a letter asking her to participate. Would they withhold extra graduation tickets if Lorelai said no? Lorelai snaps a bad photo of Luke.
Lane’s band needs a name for their upcoming gig. Rory and Jess watch a bit before leaving. Jess’ car is still ‘missing.’ Rory talks about Jess’ upcoming prom. Rory really wants to be there with Lane.
Lorelai has been laying off employees at the Inn. Sookie accidentally put her hand on Luke’s ass while seeing what he was doing behind the stove. A good butt. Lorelai offers him and Nicole a room at the Inn - they are going skiing, but were going to get up really early since Nicole doesn’t stay at Luke’s with Jess there.
Michel was going to fire Frank, but heard that he rescues Chow puppies, and shows Lorelai a picture of Chin-Chin and Paw-Paw. Michel adopted them both. So Lorelai has to fire Frank.
The Booster Club is organizing the Grad Night event - a party on a yacht. Lorelai was voted grad night treasurer. Max walks in perhaps as teacher advisor. Lorelai smiles and stares, but he’s all business.
Lorelai rants to Sookie about Max not looking at her and leaving the meeting early, so she couldn’t talk with him. Lorelai is confused about what she wants and what she feels. Lorelai does mention intermittent dates with Alex. Lorelai thinks that knowing what Max felt about her and their kiss would help her figure things out.
Jess was sent to the principal’s office when he went to buy prom tickets. Angrily and with no compassion, he tells Jess that he’s flunked out. It was not just about grades - 20 missed days is the cutoff, and Jess missed 31 days. Apparently they gave Jess 9 warning slips and tried to set up a bunch of meetings with him, but he blew them all off. Jess will have to take the entire year over again. Jess won’t get to go to prom, though he did ask.
Rory is going to the party early to help the band set up. Lorelai gives her party survival tips. Lorelai almost asked Rory about Max, but kept her promise and didn’t.
Lane is a little weirded out that there is beer at the party. Dave places himself between Lane and Jung Chu, who is nearly falling over himself to do things for her. Jess is not happy to be so early to the party, but deals with it.
Michel is stressing because they are understaffed and he has to do the work of the maid and bellman. And he’s going to check on the puppies often, following the guidelines in the Chow book. Had to blow dry Paw-Paw when she fell in her water dish. Says he’s a bad Daddy.
Jess helps set up the keg. He’s a bit moody. Probably doesn’t help that Dean and Lindsay are there. Lane asks for Rory’s help keeping Jung Chu out of her hair. Rory introduces them, but coughs their band name, since they don’t have one yet.
Lorelai is lending a hand with turndown service, and happens into Luke & Nicole’s room. Awkward. She insists on doing it all though, which just makes things weird. Tells them to ‘have fun’ after turning down the sheets.
The gig is going well, but things with Dave not so much. He says Jung Chu is driving him crazy. Wants to know when Lane is breaking up with him. Lane says it’s sensitive. Admits Jung Chu is in love with her. Dave thinks he’s abusing the situation to take Lane to prom instead of him. Lane says she’ll make it happen - Dave says it’s too late.
Jess wants to bail on the party. He doesn’t like anybody else and says it’s boring. Rory needs to stay for Lane. ‘Gloomy’ agrees to stay until the set is over.
Dean and Lindsay come say hi, and it’s hard Jess not to laugh at Lindsay’s music taste. Lindsay says Jess ‘used to go’ to their school. Dean noticed he wasn’t there much either.
Jung Chu tries to wave Lane over to sit next to him. Instead, Lane gets a beer.
Paris tells the Booster Club that the yacht is a bad idea, giving stats about sea disasters. They just ignore her. Max has another teacher in subbing for him at the meeting.
Lorelai excuses herself to go find him. Accuses Max of avoiding her. They fight about who started playing it cool first. He won’t let her come near him, saying that he has no control when she’s around. He gets stupid.
Max says he was seeing someone in California. Lorelai picks at his logic, since Max is no longer seeing this Diane anyway. He wanted to pretend to ignore the kiss. Max said Lorelai had her chance, and said no. Lorelai said it was right for both of them. Lorelai says a year and a whole country and there they are again. Max doesn’t want to see her, says he should not have come back. Lorelai will abide by his wishes, and they say goodbye.
Lane, buzzed, calls her mom. She tells her mom she’s been drinking and that she’s in a band. And that she loves Dave. Dave sees what she’s doing and hangs up the phone for her. Can’t believe she called her mom, and now she’s drunk. Lane kisses Dave.
Rory goes to find Jess, who is hiding in a room upstairs. Rory wants to know what has made Jess sad. He just kisses her. Brings her to the bed. Rory is asking Jess to wait, while he’s undoing her belt. Rory gets up and says ‘not here, not now.’ Jess doesn’t know what he thinks anymore. Tells Rory to stop. Yells at her for coming up there. Rory doesn’t know what she did to deserve that. Crying, she runs out.
Jess knows she didn’t do anything and tries to follow her. Dean stops Rory from running away and asks what’s wrong. Jess says ‘figures’ and walks by. Dean chases after Jess and punches him. They get into a huge fight. Rory is yelling at them to stop.
Dave goes to talk to Jung Chu and is knocked into him by the feuding Jess & Dean. The crowd manages to get them out of the house, but the fight continues on the lawn. The cops come to break up the party. Rory calls after Jess - he walks away. Rory can’t follow because she spots Lane throwing up in the bushes.

Jess was a pretty big jerk in this one. But that fight was definitely not his fault! Dean started that when he had no idea what was going on. They could have just gotten in a fight or something for all he knew. I feel bad for Jess, but if he had talked to Rory about it maybe they could have stayed together.

I guess maybe he kinda afraid tell her truth. If Jess think maybe Rory is really smarter from chilton and go to college next year than him and she think he is stupid.Jess think Rory like Dean better than him, when he ask her-what wrong then fight with Jess, but not his fault, cuz Dean started for think he hurt Rory’s feeling.

This is one of my favorite episode of Gilmore Girls. I have no idea why though. I love the guy who brings the keg and yells “21!!” I always feel bad for Jess when he is told he can’t graduate because I think he really wants to take Rory to her prom.
Yes, I do think Jess was afraid to tell Rory that he isn’t graduating because she’s going to Chilton and is really smart and even though Jess is really smart too, I don’t think he feels he’s good enough for Rory.

yeah jess is a jerk! i thought it was obvious why lane won’t break up with jung choo. if she breaks up with him, then mrs kim won’t feel bad at lane, but angry. and she’ll never let lane go out with Dave! he! i thought it was obvious…guess not

Jess is very intelligent, but just not willing to go thru the same educational channels as Rory. I think he didn’t want to and/or know how to let Rory down gracefully so he, once again, acted out.

i luv this episode because of the party and the keg guys. I feel bad for jess because he doesn’t know how to show his feeling and he is truly bumed when he couldn’t graduate.
