Kelly Bishop in ‘Steel Magnolias’
Kelly Bishop has been cast in the theatrical revival of "Steel Magnolias" a play written by Robert Harling with its first theatrical production in 1987.
"Steel Magnolias" is best known for its 1989 moviewith Julia Roberts (see "Steel Magnolias" DVD). If you haven’t seen the movie yet, do. It will make you cry, but it’s also quite humorous. A ’sentimental, silly, sappy and sweet Southern Drama.’
Kelly Bishop, a Tony-Award winning Broadway actress, has been cast as Clairee. Clairee is the wealthy society maven, recently divorced, with a great snarky sense of humor. The role will be a great one for Kelly Bishop.
The stroy takes place in Louisiana, where six women share their lives in Truvy’s beauty salon. Secrets and gossip, weddings and divorces, babies and funerals, these women "weather every event in their lives en masse with grace, determination, and perfectly coifed hair." And it is in the salon where the women seek comfort to get them through a tragedy.

- Kelly Sullivan as Shelby Eatenton Latcherie (Julia Roberts)
Will be at the Paper Mill Playhouse’s Millburn Theatre between March 5 - April 6 in New Jersey. Tickets range $25-$92.

I Love this movie and Kelly is perfect as Clairee!

I am so going to see Kelly Bishop on April 5th!!! She is just an excellent actress and one of my inspirations. I can’t wait to see the play!!

I’m so thrilled to find this site. I’m a late, but ardent, Girls fan.
Might I make a small observation about Steel Magnolias? In the play, Clairee Belcher is not recently divorced, she’s recently widowed.

Well I guess you all want a report. It was wonderful. At times Kelly reminded me of her days of Emily Gilmore. In the play she is sort of softer than Emily. I got to meet her before and after the show. She is the nicest person in person. HAHA. I have so much respect for her. During the talk back segment most of the questions were for her. And….. She still looks great!!! If anyone wants more let me know, just ask!!!
