Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:

Lorelai is trying to memorize phrases in Spanish for the trip while Rory ignores her pie and tries to study for finals. Lane is trying to look on the bright side of the 7th Day Aventist college. But she’s deluding herself.

Rory doesn’t think she has time to study, finish all her duties at Chilton, and sleep. So Rory has a list and a schedule and a system. She missed an event though, a lunch for a $250 scholarship she got. Rory has not heard from Yale financial aid yet.

Luke is miming ‘don’t tell Rory’ through the kitchen door. He takes Lorelai out of ear shot and tells Lorelai that Jess is gone. Luke puts on a brave face saying ‘good riddance’, of sorts, but then is humbled and says he failed Jess. He thinks he knows where Jess went. Lorelai realizes Rory does not have time to hear and deal with this news.

Jess has arrived to California. It’s all laid back - and there is Jess, dressed all in black, standing on the beach looking at the ocean.

Rory did not qualify for financial aid for Yale because of the $75,000 Lorelai got, and gave back to her parents. And there is nothing Lorelai can do to get the aid that Rory needs.

Jess goes looking for Jimmy. The woman on the roof doesn’t let him in until Jess says Jimmy is his father. Sasha, the woman, introduces the multitude of dogs. The house is a little circus-ish, but Jess finds the room that sways him - one wall of vinyl, one wall of books. Runs across a little girl named Lily in a cupboard.

It’s Senior Palooza and Lorelai realizes what it’s like to be intimidated by Paris. Rory had Madeline & Louise hand out the year books instead, and goes to help Emily pick an outfit.

Sasha tells Jess about Lily as they go for a walk about town. She and Jimmy have been together for five years, and she seems to know everybody in town. Sasha takes Jess to Dante’s Inferno, Jimmy’s hot dog shack near the beach. He’s surprised to see Jess. Makes small talk. They are in Santa Monica, though Jimmy technically lives in Venice Beach. Jimmy loves the beach. Tells Jess all the places he’s lived. Jess lets Jimmy off the hook, saying he didn’t come there to "bust his balls" about leaving him as a baby.

Rory comes to the Gilmore house to find their well-connected fashion consultant, Miss Celine, there. She says Rory looks like Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina. What stories, what outfits! Celine’s turban and gloves are priceless. Celine tells Rory not to estimate the power of a good shirt - little creepy.

Madeline and Louise are handing out the yearbooks sans one page, with a bad picture of them on it. Paris is getting frustrated when nobody comes to buy tickets for the grad cruise. Lorelai asks which school Paris has chosen. She’s down to Columbia (because her mother hates it), Princeton (though it would look like she’s going there just for Jamie) and Yale. Lorelai advises her to do what she wants to do. Lorelai hugs Paris - encouraging Paris to unclench her fists.

Sasha confronts Jimmy about Jess - he had not told her about him. She gets bent out of shape and calls Jimmy ‘roomie’. Sasha is also angry that Jimmy didn’t ask how long Jess was staying or why he was there or if he’s in trouble. The odds are not looking good that he just came to see Jimmy.

Celine is trying to organize Rory’s wardrobe for Yale. Starting from the top - the hat. And she keeps calling Rory Sabrina. Apparently Lorelai is Natalie Wood to Celine. Emily seems put out that Lorelai came over and pretends she’s very busy. It’s 7 and dinner is ready, but Emily tells the maid it’s not ready. To avoid inviting Lorelai to dinner. But Lorelai catches Emily’s lie by asking Richard if they have plans.

Lorelai has had enough of the Gilmore’s and does not want to come back there. Rory goes to get her books and Emily starts saying she doesn’t know what to do with Lorelai. Rory tells Emily she’s being stupid. Emily’s jaw drops.

Rory and Lorelai are stuck at the light in front of Luke’s. Seeing them there, Luke bolts back inside. Rory wants to know what’s up. Lorelai apologizes for not saying anything earlier, but that Jess is gone and probably not coming back. Rory doesn’t think Jess will come back either. Lorelai decides to run the red light - a police motorcycle pulls out behind her.

Jimmy tracks down Jess and gets angry with him for not specifying which bookstore he’d be in. Wants to know why Jess is there, if he’s in trouble. Jess just asks the same questions back about why Jimmy was in Stars Hollow. Jess asks to crash there a while. Jimmy tells Jess he can’t stay. He’s not a father. Jess says he doesn’t need a Daddy, he’s 18, he just needs a place to crash. Jimmy says he’s a screw up that Jess shouldn’t be around. Jess says the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Jimmy tells Jess he has nothing to offer him. Jess yells back that he has nothing. He can’t stay at Luke’s or in Stars Hollow and his mother is a ‘whack job.’ That he’s not graduating high school and he doesn’t know what to do with his life, but he needs to find out soon. Jimmy agrees to ask Sasha.

Lorelai hides the financial aid letter from Rory and laughs at the comments in Rory’s year book. Lorelai looks up and smiles - comes to see Rory. The kids in the book are calling Rory the Valedictorian. Rory is angry about it - another speech to write. Lorelai reminds Rory that it’s amazing - Rory had lost herself in the stress.

Number 2.Because Jess want see his father again, cuz he did not see him for long times until he was left, when Jess was a baby.
Number 3.Maybe Jimmy afraid tell Sasha the truth about Jess,I guess.
Number 4.I guess, maybe Lorelai want Rory and Paris stay still friend,if Rory not make new friend from yale yet.
6.Because Emily dont want lose Lorelai again and dont want what happen again, when she was 16 year old and run away from home.I was shock Rory call grandmother that you are really stupid and Emily was like shock, that harsh said that.
Poor Rory, she really look sad when Lorelai told her that Jess is gone and she said oh,where gone and Lorelai said Luke know, but he dont know and Rory get hurt. But I really understand Jess dont want talk Rory, cuz he not graduation and not go to college and Rory is graduation and go to college, but Jess not.I really understand how he feel.

the only reason why they have jess in this episode because the parts when he is in venice, ca was the pilot for a spin off of jess in ca but because the costs in venice were high they canceled the show and they made it for the end for jess because amy sherman palladino thought it was his time to leave. thats why it seems weird to bring new characters and during the episode it seems cut off from a longer version of something.

I always hated this episode. It seemed so out of place! It wasn’t until a year or so later that I found out it was supposed to be a spin-off for Jess. I love Milo, but I’m really glad they didn’t pick up this show. This is probably the most boring episode in all seven seasons of GG. Just an opinion…

I actually really liked this episode. I agree the actual Stars Hollow portions were a little stale. The part where Luke told Lorelai that Jess was gone, and when Lorelai told Rory Jess was gone were really nice, though. I liked the Jess in Venice scene a lot. He was so out of place it was hilarious. I would have loved to see the spin-off. I always wondered how it was for Jess in CA.

I really wish they could have made this into a spin-off. Minus the guy who played Jimmy Mariano in this epi, of course. They definitely could have done some good stuff with this set up. I would have no doubt tuned in, because as we all know, pilots are almost never a shows best episode. The spin off would have had to go uphill from the small glimpse we saw.

And seriously?! This episode being worse than pretty much ANY season 7 epi is just crazy talk. Season 7 was a MAJOR disappointment compared to the episodes of substance in all the previous seasons.

In a strange coincidence, on the day after ABC Family showed this episode, it showed episode 1.17 of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. In that episode, the protagonist is told that she looks like…Audrey Hepburn in “Sabrina”. I’m trying to determine in my mind if the comparison is sensible in both cases or if it is simply overused.

Anyway, put me in the camp of people who thought the idea of a spinoff looked horrible. Of course, ASP had to bring in one bad idea from the spinoff - April is a dead ringer for Lily.
