Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-3 Favorites

by Arieanna on February 13th, 2008

Now that we’ve finished recapping three entire seasons of Gilmore Girls every week day, I thought we could look back at our favorites. What are your favorite episodes from Gilmore Girls seasons 1, 2 and 3?

My top 10 episodes are…

  1. 3.08: Let the Games Begin - because I love the start of the Rory & Jess relationship
  2. 1.10: Forgiveness and Stuff - because we show our true colors under stress
  3. 1.12 Double Date - Luke getting up his courage to ask Lorelai out
  4. 3.20: Say Goodnight, Gracie - for Dave and Mrs. Kim
  5. 3.16: The Big One - For Paris’ meltdown & Sookie’s news
  6. 1.21: Love, Daisies and Troubadours - Max is so sweet!
  7. 2.10: The Bracebridge Dinner - because it’s so fanciful
  8. 2.21: Lorelai’s Graduation Day - for Rory’s big step and its sad results
  9. 3.13: Dear Emily and Richard - for the flashbacks
  10. 2.13: A-Tisket, A-Tasket - Jess’ first bid for Rory, the bracelet, and Jackson loving Sookie

You can check out these pages for a refresher - there is a summary of each episode, and a link to the recaps that I’ve been doing each day:

My favorite is also your favorite! Let the Games Begin is amazing. The girls looked beautiful and I adore Jess! My second favorite is Dear Emily and Richard for the flashbacks and seeing a different side of Lorelai and Emily when Lor is buying her mom the dvd player and movies. And my third is Lorelai’s Graduation Day. Every time I see her parents tearing up when she’s up there, I cry! Beautiful writing. I just can’t get enough!

This is really hard. It would actually be easier to come up with my bottom 10. Here’s what I come up with:

    1. Keg! Max! 3.19. I felt such empathy for Rory and it is perfectly balanced with the Max/Lorelai and Dave/Lane/Yung Choo zaniness
    2. I solemnly swear 3.11 Love the fencing scene and the parking garage scene.
    3. Rory’s Dance 1.09 Watching Lorelai play both good cop and bad cop
    4. 8:00 At the Oasis. 3.05 Everything spiraling out of control and when Jess proved he cared about Rory
    5. Back in the saddle again. 2.18 Richard shows his true passion
    6. Deer Hunters 1.04 The first departure from Rory’s angelic personality
    7. Nick/Nora/Sid/Nancy 2.05 Some new conflict!
    8. Presenting Lorelai Gilmore 2.06 So quaint, so beautiful
    9. I Can’t Get Started 2.22 sets up the best season of television I’ve ever seen
    10. Pilot 1.1 Still has me laughing

Really, I’m being contrarian. If I didn’t see your list, I’d probably find a place for Tisket/Tasket and Let the Games Begin in slots 8/9.

Crap, my browser ate my post. Long story short, I can name 20 episodes that I’d be perfectly happy with in the top 10. My top 10 list had 5 from season 3, 3 from season 1, and 2 from season 2 IIRC.

My favorite episode was probably Keg! Max! I felt such empathy for Rory in that situation and it was well balanced with all of the other zaniness with Lorelai/Max and Dave/Lane/Yung Choo

Yeah, Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days - what a tease of a dream!

3.22 the speech was amazing, and Luke looked HOT with the short hair and suit.

It’s hard to name just 10! The best seasons of the series.

This is only my 2nd time around watching the series, so can’t quite get a top ten yet. So many good ones to choose from …. I do know that if ABC family runs the series again, I am making myself a tape(s) of all my fav moments so I can play it whenever I feel blue. :)

Forgiveness and Stuff is by far one of the best episodes of the series. So much so that they tried to recreate it in season 7 with Richard’s heart attack, but the show had lost most of its emotional power by then, and wit, and well…everything.

    Oh season 7.

My choices are all because they have the best Luke and Lorelai moments:
    1) 1.10 Forgiveness and Stuff
    2) 2.17 Dead Uncles and Vegetables
    3) 2.13 A-Tisket, A-Tasket
    4) 2.10 The Bracebridge Dinner
    5) 2.05 Nick and Nora/Sid and Nancy
    6) 1.12 Double Date
    7) 1.14 That Damn Donna Reed
    8) 2.08 Run Away, Little Boy
    9) 2.06 Like Mother, Like Daughter
    10) 1.15 Christopher Returns

Those are just for Season 1 and 2. For Season 3, my favorites are for the same reasons:
    1) 3.17 A Tale of Poes and Fire
    2) 3.01 Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days
    3) 3.04 One’s Got Class and the Other One Dyes

Regarding Forgiveness and stuff, I think they should have killed off Richard Gilmore at some point. I really the character and I really like Edward Hermann the actor, but I think it was necessary for the show for Emily and Lorelai to make peace with each other. It should have happened in season 7, but I can’t blame anyone for not killing off one of ASP’s characters without her around. The way it went was kind of halfway and uncompelling, like much of season 7. If a movie happens and he dies in the movie, you heard it here first.

MY favorite episode is Dear Emily and Richard from season 1 through 3. I love this episode because i love the flashbacks. I also like A tisket a tasket because Jess had a sorta *date*!!! and my third is the 3 season finale because rorys speech is so sad and if you own it on DVD i like the flashback where it shows lorelai and rory living in the independce inn
