Original Air Date: April 20, 2004 (Recap date: March 7, 2008)
Photos, Recap & Discussion

Discussion Questions:

  • Does Michel have a crush on Lindsay?
  • Do you think Taylor is vain?
  • Why does Richard make a big fuss over "acquiring" a single person company?
  • Why does Richard think Floyd wants peace? Could he not simply be digging for information?
  • Why doesn’t Lindsay work, instead of having Dean quit school?
  • Why is Lorelai nervous about dinner with Jason’s parents if their relationship is still a secret?
  • Was Rory being unjust to Lindsay? If so, why?
  • Why does Taylor overreact to the egg situation? and to Kirk?
  • Why does Floyd go through the charade of the dinner and being friendly if his motive was vengeance?
  • Would Richard go for the same vengeance, in Floyd’s place?
  • Jason lied about Lorelai, but should that make him distrustful in business?
  • Why does Luke help out Kirk like that?
  • Why was Dean hiding his friendship with Rory from Lindsay?
  • Do you think it odd that Dean apologized to Rory, instead of being mad because Lindsay was upset?
  • Does hiding their friendship mean Dean and Rory are both thinking of something more?
  • Did Richard conspire in the plan from the start, or simply later decide to cut Jason out?

Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:

Sookie & Jackson, and baby Davie, are at Luke’s with Lorelai. Lorelai is feeding Davie. Jackson asks what people use to say to get babies to open their mouths before airplanes. Good question. Luke says he does not like babies. Taylor has acquired a toupee on his cruise, pretending instead he’s combing his hair differently. The town has a smell. It could be skunks again.

It’s time to position furniture at the Dragonfly Inn. Michel is being a baby about moving the bookcase, so Dean takes it on his own. The bookcase is a lost cause - Tom says they should have ordered it through him (so it would fit). Lindsay comes to get keys from Dean. Michel gets testy about being alone, while the Dean’s get the Lindsay’s of the world.

Where did all the anvils go? Lorelai argues her point well. Richard announces that he and Jason are acquiring another company. A company of one person - Bob. Did he give himself 2 weeks notice? Will he throw himself a going away party? Emily dislikes Bob’s trophy wife, does a Barbie voice.

The fake hair is not fooling anyone. Kirk comes to tell Taylor the smell is eggs - in the square. Easter eggs from a week before. Kirk hid 300 eggs 59 eggs are unaccounted for.

Jason, Richard and Bob are playing golf - Jason not so well. He can’t hit the ball. Floyd, Jason’s father, is also on the course. Comes to say hi. Floyd says his wife Carol misses Emily, that they were inseparable. Suggests getting them together. And that maybe the men could tag along. And Jason may want to come. Richard and Jason seem excited that Floyd approached them. Emily arranges the dinner, which is on Friday and will include Lorelai and Rory. Richard thinks acquiring Bob may have triggered this - he thinks Floyd wants peace.

Dean comes by with the bookcase for Rory. The bookcase doesn’t fit at the dorm. Dean says it’s nice to see where Rory lives. Dean tells Rory that he’s taking time off from school to make extra money for him and Lindsay. Like money to buy a house. Rory thinks it’s a very bad idea, asks why the townhouse can’t wait. They have a fight. Dean calls Rory elitist.

The town is banding together to search out the eggs - Taylor points out that a map of the eggs was not made - a snide remark directed to Kirk. Jackson gets the town laughing about Taylor’s toupee a couple of times. Kirk gives a loud pep talk, hurting his throat.

Lorelai has bought a plant for Jason’s place. Jason is dreading the dinner with his parents. His father calls him Digger and they both disapprove of every girl he dates. Even the ones they suggest. Lorelai being nervous about meeting his parents makes Jason less nervous. The cow moos - it’s dinner time.

More than half of the eggs are still missing. Rory and Lane tisk over the lack of egg map. Gypsy and Jackson jinx each other for finishing Taylor’s "we are losing…" with "hair." Lane and Rory go shopping for food that is neither perishable nor requires cooking, those appliances still not existing. On a budget. Rory offers the bookcase to Lane and they talk about Dean dropping out of school. Rory thinks Dean can do more with his life and blames Lindsay for being selfish rather than encouraging Dean. Rory wonders why Lindsay doesn’t get a job. They turn the corner, and there’s Lindsay.

Kirk has been up for a day and a half looking for the eggs. Taylor ignores Kirk when Kirk gets up to assert they’ll find those last 12 eggs. Taylor says he’s suffering because of Kirk and that Kirk is now torturing him. Taylor says Kirk brought disaster upon them. He has to cancel the flower show now. Taylor has no men left to search - and that’s with Kirk volunteering. Mean.

Emily and Richard are being extra anal in preparing the meal, making sure to have all of Floyd’s favorite things. Emily wants to know why Lorelai looks so nice. Rory had not put the ‘meeting the parents’ thing together either, so it makes sense now why Lorelai is so dressed up.

Floyd and Carol arrive - the latter going off with Emily soon after to see the garden. They talk about Lorelai & Jason being at camp together. Floyd is another Yale man. Floyd is in an unusually good mood. Later, they show some family photos - Lorelai points out the one of Jason lovingly holding his nephew. Rory leaves early to get back to Yale.

The men go for cigars, the women for Brandy. Carol hopes that business never comes between her and Emily again. Emily says it’s all in the past - they don’t need to worry. Richard recounts a story of when cigars were scarce - in order to get his faves, he bypassed the retail store and went to the supplier to buy in bulk. The retailer then had to buy from him. Jason and Floyd both compliment Richard on his creativity.

The topic of vengeance comes up - it’s a part of the business he loves. He is protective of his business. Floyd says he is suing them. He is not going to sit by and let Digger take some of his oldest clients. Jason has not violated his non-compete contract, it only applied to certain clients, but Floyd knows the court process will kill their company. He says he knows Richard’s finances cannot survive it. Richard felt strongly about his cigars - Floyd about his business. Sounds like he had a private investigator following Jason. It’s "what Richard Gilmore" would do.

Carol appears to be complicit in the scheme. Floyd knows that Richard put his pension up as collateral and has loans. Then Floyd drops the bomb that Lorelai is dating Jason. Smiles in an evil way, saying he is ’sorry’ to have spoiled the secret. Richard wags his finger at Jason. They go to talk.

Emily tells Lorelai she can go, but Lorelai’s car is blocked in. Emily just says ‘oh.’

Richard demands to know if Jason has done anything illegal, and why he didn’t see this coming. Jason calls Floyd a sociopath. Jason says he never crosses boundaries. Just as seriously, Richard asks how long Jason has been seeing Lorelai. For five months, he’s been lying to Richard. Jason has a lot to be sorry about, and angry too - at himself, and at his father. Jason thinks perhaps it’s a bluff, since Floyd hates legal fees. If they counter-sue, it could all go away. Richard puts his trust in Jason to make it go away.

Lorelai is attempting to get out of the driveway. Jason says he has "the largest bottle of vodka known to man at his place." Lorelai follows.

A sleep-deprived Kirk is still looking for the eggs. Gets scared by an old lady. He collapses. Luke comes over to Kirk, who is upset at not finding the last 12 eggs. He feels like he let Taylor down - that Taylor is like a father to him. Luke hands Kirk a bag - he has found all the eggs for him! Luke tells Kirk to be the hero, tell Taylor he found them. Kirk yells "I love you Luke Danes!" to which Luke mumbles that he’s stupid.

Dean runs up to Rory’s car as she drives through Stars Hollow. He’s been trying to call her all day to apologize for yelling at the dorm. Rory realizes it’s not up to her what he does, but she doesn’t want Dean to settle. Dean says Rory is the only one who thinks that. Rory tells Dean about Doose’s. Lindsay didn’t know that Rory and Dean were friends. Dean is supposed to stop talking to Rory, but he doesn’t want that to happen.

Emily wants to know if they are in financial trouble. Richard says they will be ok. They drink.

Jason and Lorelai are playing charades - or at least Jason thought they were. Who knows what Lorelai thought they were playing. They call each other drunk. Lorelai compares the night to falling 600 feet - it’s only the last foot that’s suck-o. They drink to no more hiding - one good thing from the night. The plant is dead. In a weird way, Jason says this may be the first time his father has shown him some respect.

Richard is playing golf with Floyd! Floyd will drop the law suit, they will split the clients evenly. Richard will come back to the firm, with his own company under them. Jason is out. Richard will return a hero. Beautiful day.
