Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:

Lorelai and Sookie want to lure more businessmen to the Dragonfly. Jackson is working on overdrive - meetings and hearings and so much to do as town selectman. So his clothes are getting destroyed from his garden work. Jackson doesn’t want to sign Lorelai’s parking permit form, since he came to get away from his selectman duties. So Sookie forges it!

Richard is having lunch with Rory at Yale since he can’t make their Friday dinner drinks. He talks about finishing  The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire series after 36 years! He’s had more free time of late. He tries to get info from Rory about Emily - just little errands. He doesn’t want to talk directly to Emily.

Lorelai comes for a caffeine fix - Luke would rather she not pay, but they settle on no tip instead. Well, at least of the monetary kind. Lorelai runs into Dean outside - he seems flustered. As does she.

Emily has purchased a panic room. It’s miniscule. Emily complains about the mini bar car - Richard having taken the large one. Emily says this is her first time living alone - hence the panic room. Lorelai wants a gin martini - and, no gin being around, Emily pulls out the key to the pool house. Emily says it smells like debauchery in there. Emily snoops around. Lorelai finds her Petunia Pig plate and spoon - odds and ends that found their way there - she takes them. Emily finds a sequined vest in Richard’s closet. Emily thinks it’s been a party vest. Rory tries to cover their tracks in there, and Lorelai squishes the vest back into the closet.

Lorelai and Rory have dessert at Luke’s - Rory plans to visit with Dean, who is now sleeping on a friend’s couch. Lorelai offers to invite Dean there - but Rory has already heard back about the weird confrontation with Dean earlier. Lorelai doesn’t want it to be weird - they all had a great relationship before.

Lorelai suggests they all get together - she runs it by Luke, hanging with Rory. He seems excited. But he missed the part about Dean coming - it being a double date. Luke didn’t know Rory was with Dean again. He has a lot of questions, but won’t back out. Just has to get used to it.

Brian is trying to teach Zack a song he wrote, but Zack doesn’t like the working title "Brian’s song", so won’t look at the chord chart. Zack needs a break. Brian goes out to water the lawn, so it’s just Zack and Lane alone. Lane prods for anything on his mind, but he plays dumb. Angrily slams down his magazine to get a drink.

Kyle, the friend Dean is staying with, now has a hook for a hand (was in the Navy). Lane calls Rory and says what she said to Zack - Rory reacted, he did not. Rory promises to call back when not so distracted. Rory then asks Dean about double dating with Lorelai and Luke. He reluctantly agrees, then Rory goes back to Yale.

Lorelai is making the plans for the night a surprise. Emily calls Lorelai with the code for the panic room - she says she can’t trust Richard to come to her rescue. Sadly, it’s still the default code, since the unit is not properly installed yet. Lorelai returns to her call with Rory, and they discuss the Emily & Richard situation. Rory is very upset by it. Lorelai is proud of Rory for finally realizing that the less Emily knows, the better.

Lorelai pays a visit to Richard on the pretense of wanting to see Emily. Richard says he’s joined a barbershop quartet (and they wear vests). Lorelai asks if Richard has spoken with Emily lately, to tell her what he’s up to. He doesn’t think she’d care to know.

The bathroom is broken at Lane’s, so she and the guys are getting ready in the kitchen. Zack is talking about getting a used plunger. Lane tells Zack she’s changed her mind - she has no feelings for Zack. Was confused before.

Luke thinks he’s not dressed up enough, seeing Dean in creased slacks. The night: take out and a movie (Cool Hand Luke). Luke suggests they just get food from his diner, because it’s better. But the logic on BWR (Black, White & Read Theater) is to get food that already sucks, so it won’t suck more if you delay eating it - so they go to JoeJoe’s.

The ‘theater’ (bookstore) is empty. Kirk announces that the first reel of Cool Hand Luke caught fire, and their only other option is The Adventures of Pippi Longstocking. The girls yell for Pippi. Luke has never seen it - even Dean has seen it three times with them! Luke is a Pippi Virgin. The movie starts - with the girls singing. Luke gives Dean & Rory a weird look as they cuddle. Luke tries to pay attention to the film - will need to get the book. Though I’m not sure that’d solve his logic issues.

Dean and Rory go for refills on popcorn and spot Kirk and Lulu in a heavy make out session. Lorelai asks Luke to drop his attitude around Dean. He’s very annoyed about the whole situation. He says he’ll chill, but still glares at Dean when he puts his arm back around Rory.

Zack comes to the diner to speak with Lane. Zack says Lane has known him for two years, and probably knows him better than anyone (even his parents). So she, of all people, should know it takes him a while to process things. Zack tells Lane the thing between them will take longer than a chord change to process. Lane smiles at Zack.

When they get back to Lorelai’s, Dean asks for a beer when Luke does, but Luke gets all sarcastic about him drinking underage. Luke assures Dean nobody is judging, though it sounds quite the opposite. Rory tries to remind Dean & Luke about playing softball together. They walk opposite ways in the house.

Sensing the tension, Lorelai brings the Bop-It to the rescue. After a demo, Lorelai passes it to Luke and Dean. Who play very aggressively. Luke gloats when he wins. Dean leaves and Rory gets mad at Luke then goes home.

Luke tells Lorelai he should not have agreed to the date. He says Dean is not good for Rory. Luke says Dean is unstable - he got married even though he was pining for Rory. He’s proven he doesn’t know what he wants. Luke questions how Rory could trust Dean. Jess is not good enough either - Rory deserves a prince, in his opinion. Someone who will be good to her.

Luke says Rory is like Pippi - she can be adventurous, is smart - the world is waiting for her. But if Pippi had met Dean, he would have dragged her down to his non-unique level. Would take away all her dreams. Lorelai needs it to work though - the decision is Rory’s. Luke is sorry he upset everyone who means the world to him.

Richard comes in to tell Emily their property tax bill is wrong. And he tells her about being in the barbershop quartet - with the funny vests. Emily doesn’t say much, but seems pleased to know it. Emily shares about her panic room, when Richard sees it.

Rory sees Dean on her way home. Dean says to thank Lorelai. At least part of the night was fun. Like the old days.
