Scott Patterson’s struggle with the trap was the sole focus of the first Saw V teaser trailer, as shown here, but Scott is also featured in the newly released teaser photos. Scott’s character, Agent Straum (sometimes spelled Strahm), gets placed in a terrifying trap by a serial killer in this latest installment of the psychological thriller series.
In Saw V, Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) is seemingly the last person alive to carry on the Jigsaw legacy… but when his secret is threatened, he goes on the hunt to tie up all the loose ends.

I saw (err . . .) the trailer in front of The X-Files 2 (don’t believe the reviews — it’s a good movie, it just should not have been released before November 15th).
Let me say first that I haven’t seen any of the Saw movies yet. I’ve had the first one in my to-watch stack (actually, boxes, thanks to the $5 bins at Wal-Borg and $5, $6, $7, and $10 sales at Best Buy) for, like, ever, but still, you can’t be a movie geek and not know what Saw is about and you can’t be a Gilmore Geek and not know that Patterson is the lead for Saw 4, 5 and 6.
So, I’m watching the trailer for this movie, whose title wasn’t given right off the bat and I see this guy in the head trap pictured above — and because the scene is kinda darkly lit, but well-shot and terrifying and it doesn’t register to me that it’s Scott Patterson (and therefore, Saw V) for at least 40 seconds or so.
If they intentionally made it difficult to recognize Patterson while they ratcheted up the tension, then it worked. Not easy to take.
After that, it made me wish I could have made it to the panel at Comic-Con a week before, but the Saw panel was at night (8-ish), about 3 hours after I’d gone back to my motel room.
OTOH, I *did* make it to both the Supernatural and Heroes panels. So 2 out of 3 Gilmore guys ain’t bad. Just wish that Lauren would do something geek-ish within the next year and then maybe somebody could jokingly set up a “Gilmore Fans Demand a Movie” Panel.
Sean Gunn has done stuff for Troma (and I think was actually working Troma’s booth the first year I went, pre-Gg), too. And, well, hey, Edward Herrmann could come out and set up at Autography Alley; he did The Lost Boys — he’s in. ;)
