Billy Burke in “Twilight”

Back in November, we started off a discussion about whether or not Alexis Bledel would make a better Bella in the Twilight movies. That conversation has continued to grow strong here on the blog!
After poking into Twilight yet again, I realized that a Gilmore Girls guest star appeared in the movie! Billy Burke, who appeared in 3 episodes of Gilmore Girls as Alex Lesman, played Charlie Swan (Bella’s dad) in the movie!
Billy Burke appeared in the ‘Swan Song‘ episode of Gilmore Girls as his last appearance on the show, which struck me as rather funny (with the Charlie Swan character now).
If you recall, Lorelai dated Alex (the guy starting his own coffee shop) for a few episodes after meeting him at a business class she attended with Sookie (in episode ‘I Solemnly Swear‘). Lorelai makes mention of Alex and dates further past ‘Swan Song’, but we never see Billy Burke after that and the topic of Alex just kind of fades out of the show. It was an odd loose-end in the scripting of Gilmore Girls. We were supposed to assume, perhaps, that Max kissing Lorelai would confuse her enough to drop dating Alex, perhaps. What do you think?

The reason why I wanted to see Twilight was because Billy Burke was in it. I think he is really great and have enjoyed his movies and TV quest spots long before Gilmore Girls. I don’t really feel that Lorelai stoped dating Alex because of the kiss with Max. Nothing ever came of that kiss and things were already fizzing out with the Lorelai/Alex relationship even before Max came back into the scene.
oh wow! i didn’t even recognize him! i didn’t even know what was him the whole movie! he was really good in the movie!
I think that Lor and Alex could’ve been a real goer- he was perfect for her! He understood the single parent thing, understood the coffee addiction and seemed to enjoy the nuttiness! A fellow gilmore addict and I tried to start a campaign to promote Alex as the real Gilmore boy lol
I’ve always been surprised that ASP who had been so thorough with GG so far never really planned a proper exit for the character of Alex.
Sure his relationship with Lorelai was quite casual but it would have been good not to have to assume that it was over…
