Lorelai Named an Easy Boss to Work For
June 27, 2009 by Arieanna

TV Addict put together a list of the “Top 5 TV Bosses Who’d Be Easiest To Work For,” including Lorelai Gilmore in that list.
- Michael Scott, The Office
- Angela Bower, Who’s the Boss
- Charlie Townsend, Charlie’s Angels
- Col. Sherman T. Potter, M*A*S*H
- Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls
They say, “given the personal traumas she experiences on a weekly basis, no boss would be more sympathetic to whatever excuse you come up with upon arriving late each day.” However, I do disagree with that assessment! I think, though Lorelai would be a fantastic boss to work for, she has very exacting standards and expects a lot of those whom she employs.
What do you think? Would Lorelai be an easy boss?

Very interesting post. Lorelai would not come to my mind in this list, but I never thought about it before. I agree Lorelai would not be an easy boss per say, as you point out, Arieanna. However, I think she would be an inspiring boss to work for. What makes me like working for someone is when they can set a good example with high expectations and trust their employees to follow their work. She had a special rhythm/friendship with Sookie and Michel that allowed them all to be open and respectful of one another (much like her relationship with Rory). Lorelai rarely yelled at her employees (with exceptions, of course) but she did let them know when she was disappointed. I think it takes a special person to be a good leader like her. I would much, much rather work for Lorelai Gilmore than Michael Scott.
I think she would be a really cool boss to work for!!
Smart.
Funny.
Fair.
With the intelligent to get the job done right and have fun doing it, then to recognize effort put to the task.
What more you could you want.
Only problem would be that I would always want to sleep with the boss.
Arieanna, I hate to have to tell you this, as I love this site, but right now this story on which I am commenting claims to have NO comments, even though there are three as I type this, and mine will make four. It’s very odd.
Back on topic, Lorelai would be a demanding boss, but IF you worked hard, and then some extraordinary thing came up she could probably cut you a little slack; however, you would already have to have built up a reputation as a valuable employee or you’d likely be out of there, IMHO.
Like the comparison to Harry Morgan as Sherm Potter of MASH. Both he and Lorelai are fair-minded, competent, humorous when appropriate, and get people moving to get the job done, especially when the going gets tough. The other three listed never did enough to qualify as being a real boss.
I don’t think easy is the appropriate word. I think she would be a fair boss. Telling you you did a good job when you actually did and telling you you messed up when you did.
That’s the kind of boss I like to work for.
RaeDae – there were some issues with comments. I think they’re all fixed now.
