Would You Jump?
February 23, 2009 by Arieanna
That’s a question I ask myself every time I watch ‘You Jump, I Jump, Jack‘. Could I jump? I am pretty sure I could climb the scaffolding, but I’m not sure if I would take the leap of faith and jump off. It’s a step into the unknown. Could you jump?

In the episode, Rory’s not sure if she could jump either. In fact, Rory’s gut reaction to Logan’s offer was a flat refusal, saying the ‘press’ don’t participate. However, Logan knows his journalism and is able to shoot that down, getting under Rory’s skin by saying she looks like she could use some adventure. That she’s “sheltered.”
“It’ll be fun, it’ll be a thrill. Something stupid, something bad for
you. Just something different. Isn’t this the point of being young? It’s your choice, Ace. People can live a hundred years without really living for a minute. You climb up here with me, it’s one less minute you haven’t lived.”
Perhaps because Logan has heckled her or perhaps because she’s crushing on him, Rory says she’ll do it. I think the real reason is that Logan hit home - Rory does feel sheltered. She’s always been the good girl, the reporter looking from the outside in on the action. She sees Logan as carefree and part of that appeals to her.
Once Rory is up there, she’d lose a lot of face to climb back down. She knows it, and I think part of Rory wants to prove something to herself. And the last moment on the scaffold was that of romance - something that’d make your heart flutter even if the height didn’t! Logan asks Rory if he trusts her, and Rory comes back with the wit, ‘You jump, I jump, Jack’ (a line used many times in Titanic). And, holding hands, they leap (ok, not before Logan tries to psych her out about the test drop)!

Was Rory Like Pippi?
February 19, 2009 by Arieanna
In Gilmore Girls during the Season 5 episode “We Got Us a Pippi Virgin“, Luke & Lorelai go on a double date with Rory & Dean… despite a little grumbling from Luke. They go to watch a Pippi Longstocking movie, The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking, since apparently Luke is a Pippi Virgin.

Image: TheWB.com
At one point in the episode, however, Luke & Lorelai have a talk about why Luke is so annoyed by Rory dating Dean again. Luke believed that Dean was not good enough for Rory, though very few people would be… a prince maybe, or someone who will be good for her. Luke then goes on to compare Rory to Pippi Longstocking.
“She can have adventures and be free, she’s smart. The whole world’s waiting for her….
Pippi is strong and independent. She can lift a horse above her head. Uh-huh. And beat up bullies and build a hot-air balloon. She’s unique, like Rory. But I guarantee you, if Pippi had met Dean, there would be no horse, no balloons. He’d drag her down to his level, spend all her gold coins, and poof, like that, all her dreams would be gone.”
Why Does Sherry Want to Bond with Lorelai?
December 9, 2008 by Arieanna
TheWB.com has uploaded several new episodes of Gilmore Girls for your viewing pleasure! They are not all in order, there are new episodes from season 1, 3, and 7. There are three new episodes from season 3, including “Happy Birthday, Baby”, “Keg! Max!” and “Say Goodnight, Gracie.” After three years of writing GilmoreGirlsNews.com, I finally have episodic images I can use legally, thanks to TheWB.com
So, we may be starting mid-way through the series, but I’m going to use these new images as an excuse to watch Gilmore Girls again and to pop up a few discussion questions here and there. We’ve already discussed the whole series together, but in more broad strokes. So, let’s break it down and talk about our favorite moments and pet peeves, or just whatever we want!
Let’s start with “Take the Deviled Eggs…“, since that was part of our trivia for the day!

Rory (Alexis Bledel) & Lorelai (Lauren Graham) in “Gilmore Girls” 3.06 ‘Take the Deviled Eggs…’ / Image credit: TheWB
In this episode, Rory needs to decide if she’ll go to Sherry’s baby shower. When she realizes that, although her mom was hurt by Chris, that she is getting a new half-sister, she decides to go. Although I was sad that we never saw much sisterly bonding between Rory and her new sister in the series, I was happy that Rory went to the shower. I did think it inconsiderate that Sherry would invite Lorelai - but that’s just Sherry’s way.
So, the question that’s always been on my mind - why does Sherry feel the need to share so much with Lorelai? Inviting her to the shower and talking to her about how great Chris is doing (even thanking Lorelai for that!), for example. What do you think?

Emily knows, from Kirk, that Lorelai is dating Luke! It was all accidental, as Emily just called the Inn to speak with Lorelai. Emily wants to know why Lorelai was hiding it. And hates that Lorelai has a world she keeps from her. Emily insists on re-meeting Luke in his ‘new’ capacity. Since he’s ’significant’, they set down a date for next week.

Gilmore Girls 5.01 “Say Goodbye to Daisy Miller” Photos
March 19, 2008 by Arieanna
Good News! I found a workaround for now for photos from the episodes of Gilmore Girls! Although I don’t have legal rights to take my own screencaps, the photo service I use now has all of Season 5-7 in images!! So, I will now catch up with the first episodes of this season. It won’t be perfect (the search for the images is not straightforward), but I will try to integrate the images from now on into my recaps. It won’t be as many - but better than nothing!

Lane, though in denial about moving out of home, has found a rhythm at Yale. Like getting coffee and waking up Paris. Paris keeps spending most of her nights with Professor Fleming, though she is still making up other excuses.
