Gilmore Girls Reference in “Old Dogs”

July 8, 2009 by Arieanna

In the upcoming Disney comedy, Old Dogs, there’s a reference to Gilmore Girls! The recently-released trailer has the reference at 1:09, “How’d that feel, Gilmore girl?

In Old Dogs, best friends Dan (Robin Williams) and Charlie (John Travolta) are caught in an adventure when Dan’s ex-wife Vicki (Kelly Preston) announces that she and Dan have 7-yr-old twins! Dan & Charlie work together to take care of the twins and a dog, with help from a co-worker (Seth Green) and several other comedic personalities. All in all, learning about life and family.

Old Dogs is due out on November 25, 2009.

Thanks Alli!

Luke & Chris Named Coolest TV Dads

July 4, 2009 by Arieanna

BuddyTV recently put together a list of “TV’s 50 Coolest Dads“, counting down such TV dads as Al Bundy, Homer Simpson

Coming in on the list at #37 is Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls! But even higher, we have Christopher Hayden at #8!! So, I’m guessing “coolest” doesn’t mean “best” dad ;)

Why did they choose Luke? “Somehow his daughter became a genius, but Luke is at his coolest when he’s the surly proprietor of greasy food and bottomless cups of coffee.”

Why did they choose Christopher? “He might not always be there for his kid, but Christopher is cool whether he’s on a motorcycle or in a family-friendly sedan. He’s young and hip and can banter with the best of them, an important skill to have when you’re surrounded by Gilmores.”

What do you think of making Christopher more ‘cool’ than Luke?

Also making the list is Harry Wilson on 90210, played by Gilmore Girls alumn Rob Estes.

Lorelai Named an Easy Boss to Work For

June 27, 2009 by Arieanna

TV Addict put together a list of the “Top 5 TV Bosses Who’d Be Easiest To Work For,” including Lorelai Gilmore in that list.

  1. Michael Scott, The Office
  2. Angela Bower, Who’s the Boss
  3. Charlie Townsend, Charlie’s Angels
  4. Col. Sherman T. Potter, M*A*S*H
  5. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

They say, “given the personal traumas she experiences on a weekly basis, no boss would be more sympathetic to whatever excuse you come up with upon arriving late each day.” However, I do disagree with that assessment! I think, though Lorelai would be a fantastic boss to work for, she has very exacting standards and expects a lot of those whom she employs.

What do you think? Would Lorelai be an easy boss?

Who You Wished Were Real: Jess, Dean or Logan?

June 24, 2009 by Arieanna

CollegeNews recently put together a list of “Fictional guys we wish were real“, and included on that list none other than Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia). Ok, he’s not in their top 5 (what’s with that), but is given a mention. Here’s there top 5:

  1. Zack Morris
  2. Jim Halpert
  3. Edward Cullen
  4. Van Wilder
  5. Ferris Beuller

After this list, they ask who you’d bring to life if given the chance, giving Jess from Gilmore Girls as an example. And I think there are a LOT of you who’d choose Jess!

So, let me swing this a little - who would you choose to bring to life? Jess, Dean or Logan??

ABC Family to Air “Backstage Special”

June 3, 2009 by Arieanna

Prior to starting in on Season 7 (yes, 7, not 8 - darn misleading ads!), ABC Family will be airing the Gilmore Girls Backstage Special on Friday June 5th at 5pm and again on June 8th at 11am.

The 2004 special was hosted by Brooke Burke and has the cast sharing their favorite moments over the first 3 seasons of Gilmore Girls. Here’s Lauren Graham talking with Scott Patterson in their backstage special interview:

WB Exec Likes Idea of “Gilmore Girls” Movie

May 21, 2009 by Arieanna

Ausiello rocks. He’s bee live tweeting the CW upfronts today, and has delivered us some Gilmore Girls movie gems. Ausiello says:

Just cornered Peter Roth head of Warner Bros. TV and asked him about a Gilmore movie! He said he likes the idea of a Gilmore FEATURE film as opposed to TV movie

So, is there still hope for a Gilmore Girls movie? Of course! If network execs (Peter Roth is the chief executive of Warner Brothers Television) get behind the idea, magic could happen!

Though sadly CW show Privileged (which had Gilmore Girls writer Rita Mimoun) was not renewed for Fall, Ausiello is comparing new pilot Parental Guidance Advised to Gilmore Girls, saying “it’s illegitimate Gilmore Girls“. I don’t know anything about this show yet to figure out what that means ;)

ABC Family Airing “Gilmore Girls”

May 21, 2009 by Arieanna

As we mentioned a couple of months ago, ABC Family is gearing up to air Gilmore Girls Season 7 for the first time on its network starting on June 8th.

I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter and on the blog here being mislead by ABC Family’s commercials, however. While ABC Family is talking about airing a “brand new season” of Gilmore Girls, what they really mean is “brand new to them”. They are airing Season 7, not a new season of Gilmore Girls. Don’t we wish!

Gilmore Girls 2 Year Anniversary

May 15, 2009 by Arieanna

Today marks the 2 year anniversary from the day the very last episode of Gilmore Girls aired on May 15, 2007. Gilmore Girls enriched our lives for 7 seasons, and continues to touch our lives even now. Whether you’ve always been a fan, or are a new fan, the show continues to live on because of you.

Writing GilmoreGirlsNews.com has been my privilege for many years now, and I want to take this time to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you who come here to comment on the posts and contribute to the discussions. Without you, there would be no site. You keep me inspired to keep writing, and to all of you who email me tips when they see someone from Gilmore Girls on tv or in the news, thank you too! So much of this wouldn’t be possible without your help.

I have no plans to stop writing this site - I’ll keep trying to think up interesting discussions about Gilmore Girls, putting together trivia, and keeping you up-to-date on the cast. If you ever have suggestions, I’d love to hear them. I hope someday we will get that elusive Gilmore Girls movie - but until we do, I’m so happy to have such a great community here to be a part of!
