Entertainment Survivor Challenge

We are running a very exciting contest in the Entertainment channel - we are calling it the Entertainment Survivor Challenge. Each blog was divided onto a team, and over the next 8 weeks they will compete as teams (then individually) for a prize.

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

Team #2: TV Addicts

CHALLENGE #1: Valentine’s Day Theme

Put up a post inspired by Valentine’s Day, in any interpretation of that. Every blog will participate. The winning team will have the most comments.

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

Total: 142 Comments
Eliminated: Simply Dumb, Stewie’s Playground

Team #2: TV Addicts

Total: 288 Comments - WINNERS

CHALLENGE #2 - Guest Posts

This challenge was designed to get you, the readers, involved! 5 blogs on each team competed in this challenge - the goal of which was to get as many guest posts fas possible (fan art, reviews, etc).

Team #1:

Team #2:

Team 2 won this challenge. These blogs were eliminated: FBI Dramas, Science on TV and Gryffindor Gazette.

STEAL

As a surprise move, Team #1 was allowed to steal the blog of their choosing from Team #2, and they have chosen to take DisneySociety.

FINAL STANDINGS:

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

Team #2: TV Addicts

CHALLENGE #3 - Battle of the Polls

This challenge was about using polls - one of my favorite things to do with readers. Who doesn’t love a good poll? The team with the highest average number of votes won (average being number of overall votes / number of blogs on team).

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

TOTAL 1481
AVERAGE 105.7857143

Team #2: TV Addicts

TOTAL 3368
AVERAGE 198.1176471

Team #2 won the challenge! 3 blogs were eliminated from Team #1: Comedy Centric, Evening Talk, and MTV Reality World.

CHALLENGE #4 - Lists

Bloggers were challenge to create lists of 50 news items or facts - teach news item or fact must link somewhere, and that link cannot be used in more than one item. They were judged on number of comments, diversity of items, interestingness of items, how ‘on topic’ the list was, how ’spiced up’ the post was with design, the cohesiveness of the theme, and how quickly the list was posted. The top 3 scoring blogs were averaged and points were deducted from the final score for any blog that did not participate.

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

4 blogs did not participate. The highest scoring blogs were Gossip Girl Report (60 points), The 4400 Guide (57 points) and Idol Stalker (62 points). With an average score of 60, and with 12 deductions for non-participating blogs, the final score was 48.

Team #2: TV Addicts

4 blogs did not participate. The highest scoring blogs were Soaps on ABC (59 points), Prison Break Buff (59 points) and Grey’s Anatomy News (58 points). With an average score of 59, and with 12 deductions for non-participating blogs, the final score was 47.

It was a close race, but Team #1 came out on top. 4 blogs from team 2 were eliminated: Showtime Fan, Style-Television, Top Model Gossip, VH1 Reality World

CHALLENGE #5 - POST RELAY RACE

This challenge was time-based. Each team had to essentially play in a relay race, tagging each blog in sequence by posting something related to another blog and linking over. The fastest team won - and that was Team #1. Here is the relay sequence:

Team #1

Team #2

Blogs eliminated: Fame or Famine, Reaper News, Searching Bones

CHALLENGE #6 - TEAM STUMBLES

This challenge was to use the service "Stumbleupon" to get new referring visitors. The team with the most Stumbleupon referrals, average to #blogs per team, would win.

Team #1

Total of 4481 stumbles
Average: 373

Team #2

Total of 370 stumbles
Average: 37

Blogs eliminated: Approaching Lost, Supernatural Scoop, CSI Fanatic

CHALLENGE #7 - POST CHALLENGE

This challenge was to encourage each writer to post more than his/her average number of posts in a 4 day period. The greatest % increase in posts per team would win.

Team 1: -3.44% growth in post numbers (Superhero Profiles and Dance Watcher were way up, but many were down)

Team 2: 8.17% growth in post numbers (Prison Break and Grey’s with the highest growth).

Blogs eliminated: Gossip Girl Report, Reality Exploits, The 4400 Guide, 24 Headquarters

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

Team #2: TV Addicts

CHALLENGE #8 - SPEKKED BLOG CHALLENGE

This challenge required that bloggers write a post with consecutive points or paragraphs spelling out the letters for "Spekked" and each letter referring in that line / paragraph to another blog on the team. The blogs were judged on creativity, design, relevancy and cleverness. Best team total would win.

Team #1: Couch Potatoes

TOTAL POINTS: 173

Team #2: TV Addicts

TOTAL POINTS: 135

Blogs eliminated: Medium Dreams, Grey’s Anatomy News, House is Right

== MERGE ==

The teams have now merged, and the remaining 11 blogs will compete individually to win.

FINAL STANDINGS

CHALLENGE #9 - blog comments

The goal was to get the most comments on a SINGLE POST…. but, as a PROPORTION of overall blog comments. The highest % (#of comments on the post as a percentage of the comments on the blog for the month) will get immunity. The bottom two will be voted out.

No participation / eliminated: Daytime Talk, Dance Watcher

CHALLENGE #10 - Mini Survivor Challenges

The writers were challenged to create their own mini Survivor challenge. They could choose any theme to follow - in a mall, on an island, etc. They would complete the challenge in one or more posts with the final determination of winner being decided by a reader vote. This challenge asked readers to look at the strengths and weaknesses of their show characters in a fun situation.

Blogs eliminated: Desperate Blog, Idol Stalker, SF Universe

CHALLENGE #11 - Recipe for Success

This challenge asked the writers to look at what has made their show or genre as popular as it has? What elements of the show make it survive and thrive, vs. others. This is a good challenge to stretch the editorial muscles of the writers. Check out some of the "recipes for success":

No participation / elminated: Superhero Profiles, Film Gecko, Disney Society

CHALLENGE #12 - Ultimate Survivor Challenge

This is a challenge for the FINAL THREE blogs to make it through the Entertainment Survivor Challenge! The theme of this challenge was "housekeeping." The writers were asked to look at their blog and blogging, and try to make some improvements. The person with the most progress would win as Ultimate Entertainment Survivor! I gave a long list of ideas for things to improve on in general, and asks the finalists to send me what they had done after one week of work.

Tom of Ugly Betty News and Nikki of Prison Break Buff made it in under the deadline, and competed as the final two in contention for the prize.

Tom worked on several areas of his site including his blogroll, text decoration, lists, and participating more with the community in terms of comments and questions. Most content is original, and even videos are well summarized. Nikki worked on her blogroll too, initiating some link exchanges and adding a projects section. She also worked hard on her pages, on getting in new images, and on updating her sidebar. Both bloggers made a lot of improvements, each influenced by what had been done already, and what could be improved even more.

In terms of improvement, both writers made a lot of great changes to their sites. It was a difficult decision. However, comparing the sites now to one week ago, I think the winner for "most improved blog" would go to Tom!

CONGRATULATIONS to TOM of UGLYBETTYNEWS.COM
WINNER of the ENTERTAINMENT SURVIVOR CHALLENGE!!
