Why Does Logan Propose in Public?

In ‘Unto the Breach‘, so much happens that it’s hard to decide what to talk about in this discussion post! But, among all the things that we could discuss, I’ve decided to ask just this: Why does Logan propose at Rory’s graduation party?

Logan proposing - obviously a HUGE deal. Though Logan had told Rory to not factor him into her decision about what to do with her future, he’s evidently changed his mind (ok, that’s a whole other discussion, I know). Perhaps he’s scared of losing Rory, I don’t know. After asking for Lorelai’s permission in the previous episode, we’ve been waiting for him to pop the question to Rory ever since.

Where Logan chooses to propose to Rory…. at the graduation party that Emily & Richard throw for Rory! Of all places! The proposal (written out here) is truly very sweet. But should Logan have done it in front of so many people, some of whom Rory barely knows?

Why did Logan propose at this exact time? Was it just about the ‘grand gesture’? Did he perhaps feel he was losing time? Do you think maybe that social pressure was involved? That Logan perhaps thought Rory would be more likely to say ‘yes’ if her family were there to witness it? I’d love to know what you think motivated Logan to choose this place and this time for his “grand gesture.”

Alexis Bledel at Coach Poppy Launch

Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) partnered with JustJared’s Jared Eng to help Coach launch their new Poppy handbag collection. The party, held at the Coach store in Short Hills, NJ on July 1st, was a great success and, thanks to Jared, I can share some photos from the event!

In an interview with JustJared, Alexis shared her plans for July 4th, her favorite BBQ dish (”moist brisket!”), what she likes about the Poppy collection for Coach, her favorite charity, and where she would like to go on vacation this year… nothing lofty, just a trip to Grand Canyon!

Alexis Bledel wore a yellow dress from Lela Rose dress, heels from Giuseppe Zanotti, jewelry from Mawi, and of course a Coach Poppy “Spotlight” bag.

Alexis Bledel Says Script Done for “Sin City 2″

Earlier this year, Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore on Gilmore Girls) shared that she would be reprising her role as Becky in Sin City 2, a movie that has been rumored to be in the making for many years.

According to MTV, Alexis Bledel has been told that the script for Sin City 2 is complete, and it will definitely be a prequel film, at least as far as her character is concerned.

“Someone told us yesterday that there’s a script. I don’t know what their source was, but they said they read the second script. … Apparently, [I’m] back because it’s a prequel. Because [I’m] supposed to die in the first one. But you don’t see it, so maybe she doesn’t.”

I’ll keep you posted as news develops. I know that Alexis Bledel loved her role in Sin City, saying recently “I wish I had been able to do more roles like I did in ‘Sin City’ — roles that were starkly different along the way.”

Lauren Graham Won’t Be on “Scrubs”

Oh darn!! Despite how many of us were excited about the news that ABC had Lauren Graham on their wish list for the 9th season of Scrubs, which would likely re-launch as a new-ish show under a new name, it doesn’t look like this is happening.

Ausiello, who at last update was keeping quiet about the news so as not to jinx it, had an update this morning. When asked about casting Lauren Graham in Scrubs, he said:

“As I suspected, it’s not happening. I don’t even think it got past the wish list stage.”

Major Bummer!! I was really hoping to see Lauren Graham return to a regular television series role soon!

What Does Rory’s Dream Mean?

On ‘Lorelai? Lorelai?‘, the episode begins with a dream sequence. All dream sequences seem to have special meaning on Gilmore Girls, and this one is no different.

In the dream sequence, Rory dreams that she’s back in Chilton. In her dream, the principal comes in to interrupt the class to have the teacher ask Rory to leave. That there’s been a “mistake” and she must leave. When she leaves class, Rory doesn’t end up in the hall… instead, she ends up back home. But there, Lorelai is heading off for a “break”, leaving to Hawaii. As if that wasn’t weird enough, Rory enters her kitchen to find Paris, Doyle & their 2 kids having dinner! Paris is a doctor and Doyle is an associate editor - they now own Lorelai’s house.

And Rory? They take pity on her. Call her “confused” and give her money. And what is she doing for her living? They hand her a trash poke, like she used during her community service!

What does Rory’s dream mean? Is she simply expressing her uncertainty about her future? That everyone has a path laid out but her? Or is she also feeling excluded? If so, why? I think, perhaps, Rory is also feeling that her future is out of her control, and Rory never likes that. She likes to be the one to make her own decisions, not to have them made for her.

Given Rory’s uncertainty about her future, and what Logan surprises Lorelai with later in the episode, should we be surprised that Rory, once again, later decides that she needs to stand on her own feet and decide her own future?

Adam Wylie on “The Secret Saturdays”

Adam Wylie (Brad Langford on Gilmore Girls) recently lent his voice to the animated television series The Secret Saturdays, which airs on Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of a family of cryptozoologists, the Saturdays, who work to keep the truth about the cryptids (monsters) from getting out.

Adam Wylie appeared in the first episode of Season 2, The Underworld Bride, which aired on May 8, 2009. He was the voice of King Ulraj, a character he’d first lent his voice to in Season 1, when Ulraj was still just a prince of Kumari Kandam. In that episode, the Saturdays helped him reclaim his rightful spot on the throne, after his father was killed.

In the latest episode, King Ulraj travels with the Saturday family to New Guinea to investigate the Duah, a cryptid with a bad attitude. They learn that Duah plans to take Zon as his mate, then to eat her, and together try to save Zon from this fate. Ulraj, as a cryptid, has some powers but is only able to help save Zon if she truly wishes to be saved.

Riki Lindhome in “Say Hello to Stan Talmadge”

Riki Lindhome (Juliet from the Life & Death Brigade on Gilmore Girls), who starred earlier this year in The Last House on the Left, has just completed filming of another film, Say Hello to Stan Talmadge.

Say Hello to Stan Talmadge is a comedy film set in 1979. The film, told in the form of a flashback, follows the misadventures of Stan Talmadge (Gary Cole), an estranged ex-husband who latches onto the idea of a cross-country road trip in a motor home as a way to reunite his family. They take a trip across country to a “Family Feud”-style game show known as “Beat Your Neighbor.”

Riki Lindhome is credited in the film as Polly Talmadge, presumably Stan’s daughter. Also co-starring in the film are Agnes Bruckner, Tina Holmes, Jennifer Coolidge and Robert Hoffman. The film is listed with a 2009 release date, but no other promotional information is yet available.

Watch “The Answer Man” on Amazon

Lauren Graham’s movie The Answer Man premiered On Demand on June 26th and many of you have been wondering where you can watch it. ‘On Demand’ can mean so many things, after all!

Amazon.com has The Answer Man ‘On Demand’, listed as a “pre-theatrical release” since the movie will also hit theaters on July 24th.

In The Answer Man, Arlen Faber (Jeff Daniels) is the reclusive author of “Me and God,” a book that become the new standard about spirituality for an entire generation. 20 years later, Arlen is still sought out as the man with the “answers”, though he has none (even for himself). Arlen’s life collides with Elizabeth (Lauren Graham), a single mom raising her seven year-old son, and Kris (Lou Taylor Pucci), a young man fresh out of rehab who is searching for meaning. Both Elizabeth and Kris are hopeful that Arlen has the answers, but of course we know that’s not true!

Why Does Bickering Help?

On ‘It’s Just Like Riding a Bike‘, Lorelai decides to take the first step in restoring her friendship (or relationship?) with Luke by returning to Luke’s Diner. However, Lorelai and Luke end up awkwardly talking about the weather before Lorelai gives up and leaves with her coffee.

Determined to make progress, despite their history, Lorelai takes Sookie’s advice and asks for Luke’s help to pick out a new car, after her Jeep breaks down. They don’t seem to know how to act with each other, and Luke gets frustrated by Lorelai needing to ‘get the feeling’ of a car (why this should surprise him, I have no idea). All of this ends up turning into non-stop bickering, which is apparently what they needed. Lorelai looks radiant!

Lorelai tells Sookie that the bickering was more ‘normal’ to them, something better than the frustration they were feeling. It was something that got them past the ‘hump’ in their relationship. Luke, though we don’t see his reaction as immediately, seems to feel the same way. It’s like he realized that the memories that Lorelai had for her jeep were the most important thing - so he finds a way to get Lorelai a new engine for her old Jeep!

Why do you think bickering got Luke & Lorelai back on track? What was the ‘hump’ in their relationship that needed to be gotten over?

“The Answer Man” Reviews

Lauren Graham’s movie The Answer Man (previously The Dream of the Romans or Arlen Faber) premiered On Demand on June 26th, with theatrical release coming up on July 24th.

I decided to rustle up some reviews of the film, and of Lauren Graham’s performance:

This is one of the best romantic comedies I’ve seen in a long time… Graham is… pitch perfect and the chemistry kindles plausibly between the pair as Arlen befriends her small, scared son Alex (Max Antisell). - Holland Sentinel

‘The Answer Man’ blends a great story (written by director John Hindman), bursts of fresh humor, rich sounds and textures, well-developed central characters, and strong performances from the actors… As the over-protective healer, Graham plays a loving, spiritual character reminiscent of her role in ‘Evan Almighty.’ - Suite 101

It’s an endearing, at time touching, little film that combines romance with some grounded spirituality (it’s never gag-inducing). - Pajiba

“The Answer Man” (formerly known as “Arlen Faber”) is very smart, very funny, very insightful and very well-written by John Hindman, who also directs… the ever-radiant Ms. Graham lends oodles of nuance to a slightly under-written role; she’s great as the empathetic chiropractor who befriends Daniels. - mlive

Though his film is a tad choppy and a lot chatty, Hindman elicits sympathetic performances from leads who demonstrate a deep understanding of movie physics. - Philly.com
