Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:
Everyone is trying very hard to keep things civil for Friday night dinner. Emily & Richard are still touchy about Yale though. Lolelai puts a temporary ban on talking about Yale and starts the night afresh. Richard wishes to yell at the people "who deserve it" but instead yells at Emily. Lorelai counts back from five and Richard then says "I love shrimp" to change the topic.
Emily asks how Luke is doing, if they are still engaged. She hasn’t received her "save the date" card. Emily persists on knowing when the wedding will be, so Lorelai blurts out June 3rd. Emily comments on how soon that is and that they haven’t seen Luke in a long time. Emily insists that Luke come to dinner the next Friday, as Richard will be traveling a lot. Emily plays Lorelai by suggesting Luke is not really the man she wants in her life if he won’t come to dinner that Friday. A "not no" becomes a "yes" and Emily says she’ll pick up some save the date cards for Lorelai.
Gilmore Girls Video Column with Kelly Video Review: "Rory’s Loves_Chemicals React" Video Created By: Lolaventimiglia Added to YouTube: September 14, 2007
Because I just focused on Rory/Jess last week, this week I wanted to choose a video that shows all three of Rory’s major relationships on the show. Lolaventimiglia’s video, "Rory’s Loves_Chemicals React," does this perfectly. Not only does this video depict all three relationships really well, it also contains a wide variety of clips, all of them perfectly matched to the lyrics. The timing is flawless, and I love the split-screens during the chorus.
I keep rewatching this video, and each time I do, I appreciate it more and more. It’s one of those amazing (and rare) videos that I can watch and realize that there is absolutely nothing that should be changed, because even a small change would seem to throw off the balance that lolaventimiglia has created between the lyrics, the video clips, and the beat of the song.

Why is Paris so out of control?
Doesn’t Paris connect her editing with the issues at the paper? Don’t you think Doyle would bring them up?
Why doesn’t Rory want to talk with her grandparents? Should Lorelai have to be the one to tell them about the Yale money?

Why can’t Richard & Emily see Chris paying as a good thing? Not just that Chris is stepping up, but that Rory won’t have the large debt that she’d promised them she would pay back?
Does Lorelai like Logan now?
Why does Lorelai lie about making dinner plans with her parents?
Why does Paris think everyone on the paper is incompetent?
Did Luke forget to tell Lorelai the part about her not seeing April? Did he even realize it would be an issue?
If Rory was calling junior writers in, why didn’t she call Logan? Particularly as he does know so much?
Is Luke right to keep April to himself for a while? Should Lorelai feel hurt by that?
Did Logan do everything at the paper for Rory, or is he really a good guy?
Are Richard & Emily trying to snub Rory, or pretend like nothing is wrong?
Emily & Richard have always wanted Christopher to be more involved, so why do they laugh at the thought of him being a responsible father?
How can Emily compare Chris’ involvement trying to break up Lorelai & Luke to paying for Yale?
Do Richard & Emily honestly not remember Lorelai’s conversation with them about Rory?
Is Friday-night dinner a truce element? Who "won" that battle, and how?
Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:
Lorelai is up and ready at 6am - up even before Luke is! Luke keeps pushing Lorelai to say where she’s going, so she tells him she was supposed to meet with Sookie to pick flowers for the wedding, and had forgotten to tell Sookie the wedding is delayed. Luke asks if he can help cancel stuff, but Lorelai says she can handle it all. Luke gets up to hug her, it seems, but instead runs into her and bashes her nose. Lorelai says she’ll "see him" and leaves.
Lorelai meets Sookie at the flower mart, where Sookie has been scoping out where to get the best flowers. Lorelai sadly tells Sookie that the wedding has been postponed. Sookie thinks Lorelai got cold feet, but Lorelai tells her about Luke’s daughter and how Luke is in shock. Lorelai applauds that Luke is trying to be a father. That makes Sookie question if Jackson has a love child he doesn’t know about.

One of the readers here at GilmoreGirlsNews left a very thoughtful comment on the recap for "The Prodigal Daughter Returns" - in general, the comments on this site are insightful and really great. I love it. You guys always make me think. This comment, in particular, has had me coming back to read it over and over, so I decided to bring it out and share it, to start a discussion.
Reader "viewer" had this to say (some parts edited out, bolding mine for emphasis):
one aspect of the close relationship between the two is Rory had never seen Lorelai as an impediment to her personal freedom, and we have all seen the episode where Lorelai herself tells Emily that she is Rory’s friend first, and her mother second.
All that is to say that no, I didn’t see the reunion as too easy. It was as inevitable as was the separation. Best friend or not, Rory was a young woman who had reached that point where she had to leave the nest, and go find her own way, both literally and figuratively, and even in the most loving families, the closest parent-child relationships, there has to come a time when the child clambers down from those parental arms and stands on her own feet, and each one of us does it in a different way, with our own individual measure or lack of drama and rebellion, and each parent reacts in their own way, but most understand that painful though it is, it is exactly what the goal of the whole process has been!
So Rory clambered down from Lorelai’s arms and claimed her own life and her own responsibility for it, and like many mothers, single or not, it was extremely painful for Lorelai.
Someone once said that there are two kinds of women, those who live for their spouse, and those who live for their children, and Lorelai seems to me to be a classic example of the latter, which, now that I think about it, may have been one factor in what many, myself included, perceive as Luke’s conflicted feelings about having children with Lorelai - after waiting for eight years to “get” her, with the understanding that since she already has a daughter, second place is the best he can ever hope for starting out of the gate, and we can’t blame him for wanting to think long and hard before handing the biggest chunk of her over to yet another someone else - even if the someone else would be his own child!

Lorelai and Rory come tumbling in with bags and souvenirs from their trip to Atlantic City. They had a great time. They pretended Rory was turning 21 while playing 21, and actually won, allowing them to buy their 21 items. They had a list of phone numbers for guys too. Sadly, they didn’t get to see the real Paul Anka, the show had closed. They saw Tony Danza instead. They brought back Luke a Paul Anka t-shirt though.
Milo Ventimiglia has expressed a wish to learn how to make men’s suits. Milo has a closet full of dresswear and admires them so much. Milo even has custom suits that his grandfather gave him and that Milo subsequently re-tailored for himself.
"Studying suit-making in Italy is something I’d love to do. My family is from Sicily and I went back there when I was 22. I’d love to return and work with a tailor to get to understand how a great suit is made."
Seth Kushner has also done a recent photoshoot of Milo Ventimiglia and there is a gorgeous teaser shot up here.
