Lauren Graham Talks Broadway and Gilmore Girls

Lauren Graham Guys and Dolls BroadwayLauren Graham’s Guys and Dolls on Broadway opens this Sunday!! I can’t wait to see the premiere photos!

In addition to the interviews I posted earlier this week, Lauren Graham has been getting more ink for her first Broadway show. In her latest interview, Lauren talks about having to get over her insecurity for being rather ‘green’ on Broadway, compared to cast members with oodles of Broadway theatrical experience. She’s often nervous if they change part of the act after she’s rehearsed it, but she reminds herself that it’ll be fine.

The choreographer talked about the production and the two striptease numbers that Lauren Graham’s burlesque-performing character, Adelaide, does. They says that it made sense for Lauren to get the skimpy costumes because she has a “spectacular body.” Go Lauren! Co-star Oliver Platt describes Lauren as “original and appealing” as Adelaide, someone who’s a comedian, a great singer, and can be both tough and vulnerable.

Lauren Graham makes one quick reference to Gilmore Girls, when talking about her new ABC comedy, Let it Go. Lauren describes her new show as having a “sharper edge” than the family-friendly Gilmore Girls, which still looms large in her career. Lauren joked that people are probably going to ask her about a Gilmore Girls movie for the “rest of my life.” Of course we are!

You can buy tickets here. If you go to the production, leave a comment or email me to tell me what you think - and if you’re lucky enough to get a photo of and/or with Lauren, do let me know so I can share it!

Lauren Graham in “Guys and Dolls”

October 28, 2008 by Arieanna

Lauren Graham All My SonsIt was only a little more than a week since Lauren Graham attended the Broadway premiere of “All My Sons”, with me wishing she’d be in her own show. And now I have the pleasure to announce - Lauren Graham will be on Broadway!!

Lauren Graham will take the lead role of Miss Adelaide in the Broadway revival of “Guys and Dolls“, opening March 1 at the Nederlander Theatre. Previews for the new show will begin on February 3rd.

Lauren Graham will co-star in the revival with Oliver Platt as Nathan Detroit. Producer Howard Panter says, of casting, Lauren:

“She is the perfect combination of leading lady and natural comedienne and I know she will be the ideal romantic foil for Oliver Platt’s Nathan.”

About “Guys and Dolls”

Guys and Dolls is a musical, with music written by Frank Loesser. It’s based on two short stories by Damon Runyon and first hit Broadway in 1950. In its original production, directed by George S. Kaufman, it ran for 1201 performances and won 5 Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical. In 1995, it was turned into a film.

Guys and Dolls has been revived several times now, 3 times on Broadway and several more times around the world. The latest revival will be directed by Des McAnuff with choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

You’ll likely know many musical numbers that are from Guys and Dolls, such as “Luck be a Lady” and “Adelaide’s Lament.”
