Sarah Tompkins is a book editor, newly out of a long-term relationship. She has decided it’s time to have a baby, and decides to look into having one on her own. Sarah - the woman who has it all and can do it all - finds she cannot have a baby. Instead, she turns to her estranged sister Coco for help. And her "very casual" man Marcus must deal with Sarah’s decision.

Coco is touched that Sarah is publishing a series based on her imaginary friend, Jezebel James. She decides to move in with her sister and become the surrogate for her baby.
